Arrow What Ever Happened To 80 Series Tires

I've been looking for some taller tires for my 06 scab 4x4 cause i got the 4.10 rearend and the 245/70/17 keep my rpms up at cruising speed. So i figure a taller tire would help some. I dont want to get new wheels right now, (not to many choices when you have the 7 lug bolt pattern) so i'm trying to find tires that would fit my stock wheels. Now i remember back in the day, 10-15 years ago you could get 80 and 85 series tires. they wouldn't be as wide but you could get the height. What happened! Is no one selling these anymore?

Look at the M-55 and Open Country H/T. I know those two tires come in the size 235/80/17. I think a few other toyo tires come in that size and 235/85's for 16" rims.

Michelin makes a couple of tires that are 235/80/17's as well. Just have to look around...

A 235/80/17 comes out to about the same height as my stock 245/70/17. I think I'm looking for maybe a 265/80/17. Alittle wider and taller. Should be about the same height as an 285/70 17, but will fit better on my stock wheels

235/80/17's are the same size as 265/70/17's, taller than your 245's by over 2 inches in diameter.

I have Michelin 235/80/17's on my truck, which are 31.8 inches in diameter, vs the OEM 265/70/17's (on 4x4) which are also 31.8 inches.

Ahh... I see what your asking for now... I guess I wasn't that into tires 10-15 yrs ago because I've never seen that size before.

The 285's would fit fine on your truck. You could even go up to the 35' range with a leveling kit if you wanted to. But I understand if you dont want that wide of a tire (not to mention the price). I have the 285/70/17's on my truck right now. You can't go wrong with that size. Sorry I wasn't more help.

Ok, I'm mistaking. Didnt think it would be that much of a difference. But 235 is a narrower (sp) tire. I want to keep at least the same with i have now, just taller to fill in the empty space. Just dont think i'm gonna find what i want

Dont discount the fact that they (235's) are narrower. My truck handles so much better with them, that I would not ever consider going back to 265's. Better gas mileage, E load rating, smoother ride, smoother steering, etc... They really don't look that funny on a half ton either.

No, sorry, I have my winter tires on right now (studded)... But I can say, that the appearance difference is not that big of a deal, unless you want that "tough" truck look. You probably wouldnt notice if you saw me in traffic with the 235's vs. OEM (which for my model is still bigger than yours by more than 2 inches).

For purpose, and utility, I say go for the 235/80's, if you want looks, to sacrifice purpose and utility, go with the 285's. I will say if you are mostly interested in towing/ hauling, you will not be too happy with the performance lost with the 285's.

Here, wait a minute, found a pic in my gallery with my summer tires, before I switched them over... not the best to see what you are looking for, but...
