Another Tire Question
Hi guys. I know you probably get tired of all the tire questions, but I would appreciate it if someone in the know could help me out. I have a 2004 F-150 XLT Extended Cab 4x2. I still have the dealer tires on it, but they badly need replaced. They are 235/70/17's and they look tiny on the truck. I want to get new tires that will fill the wheel well better, but not hurt my mileage/horsepower too much. As of right now I have two tires that I'm considering: Yokohama's 245/70/17 or Goodyear 255/70/17. I'm leaning towards the Goodyears. They're the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors and seem to be rated pretty highly. Anyways, how would switching to the 255/70/17 affect my truck? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

you should be good with that size- its about an inch larger diameter (which is nice) and slightly wider- you could go with a 265/70/17 or even a 275/65/17 and still be in great shape if you wanted to fill the wells even more...at most, your speedo will be off 1-2 mph but thats nothing to even worry about as the stock speedo can be +/- 3% off from the factory...

Thanks for the advice guys. After reading your responses and checking out a tire size calculator online, I think the 245/70's are definitely still going to be too small for my liking. So now I'm considering either the Goodyears I mentioned previously or a 265/70/17. I'm thinking either the General Grabber AT2's or the Pirelli Scorpion ATR's for a 265/70/17. Slash, the one's you recommend seem pretty good, but I can't find them anywhere with a price in my range. I really like the Goodyears but I can't afford the 265/70/17 for those, so if I get those I'd have to settle for the 255/70/17. And I'm kind of torn on whether I want an all-terrain or highway tread. I almost never go offroad, but I like the look of the all-terrain tread. So I guess I'm gonna have to make a decision about that first. Anyways, thanks again for the help. Have a great St. Patty's day!!
