New 2007 F-150 losts of dust

I bought a new F150 Monday and on Wed. I noticed lots of brake dust on right front wheel not much if any on the others. Anyone experience anything like this? The dealer says this is common. This sounded like nonsense to me.

I have a 07 also. The thing is a dust machine. I have read of a few members changing pads out cause of it. I have 20" chrome moto metal rims and I will prolly change mine just so I dont have to clean my rims every other day.

I thought my truck was having some sort of a problem...these front wheels are caked with brake dust after just a week. I've washed my truck twice now just to clean the wheels and I've only had it two weeks...It's really bad on the white lettering on the tires.

The only things I can suggest are either swapping the pads...or clean/wax the wheels regularly...don't use any tire shine...and bleach white whitewall cleaner for the white letters...works like a champ.

I heard the Carquest "blue" pads will solve this. I've had my '07 for 3 weeks (600 miles), and no issues with brake dust. You guys must stop more than me..

My '05 KR was doing the same thing, with both front wheels.

I installed KleenWheels inserts in all four wheels. They work very well. All four wheels now just get normally dirty. No real brake dust issues.

The pads Ford puts on suck. I changed out my front pads to Carquest Blues and it "helped" to reduce brake dust, but they still are covered with dust after a week's driving but I do average 750 miles a week.

How would our heavy trucks do with a set of ceramic brake pads on them? I know a lot of the cars these days are coming with ceramic brake pads...even some of the semi-metallic pads are coming with some ceramic in them...I only ask because I've seen some heavier trucks crack a set of ceramic pads in no time at all...but that was like 3-4 years ago. Since then I've stopped putting ceramics on trucks...but I'm not sure maybe things have changed in the past 3 years or so.

On my dad's 07 there isn't hardly any from what I've seen, he's got a s-cab FX-4 and the 20's. On his 07 Harley I think they were worse, and the 06 Harley too. Hit and miss, well that and he's a granny driver too. I love that damn truck though, even with a little dust they are THE best trucks out there. And from my experiences yes, the Carquest semi-metallic "blue" pads work mint, no dust on mine during bad city driving, that's a fact.

The ceramic pads..Acording to my Brake Warehouse guy.. will not stand up to the heat created by our heavy trucks. He even said that there were no ceramics available for my 06 from his supplier YET.. He said the best thing is to use a good semi metallic pad to cut down on the dust. Trust me if the ceramics were available i'd put e'm on in a heartbeat... I had them on my Camaro SS.

Also... has anyone ever heard of the R.R. caliper hanging up???

Those kleenwheels inserts I hear, hold in the heat and are not good for the trucks. It causes excessive brake fade.......says the Dealer. Suprising, bcuz they usually like to sell U stuff u don't need.

ceramic

the guy at midas said to stay away from the ceramic pads because they shorted rotor life.

Lightbulb Pad dust

These factory pads are indeed, commonly dusty around the rims.
Other aftermarket pads may reduce dust; however, you must consider they will also warp, wear and score your rotors.
If you use a dust shield, it will reduce your brakes cooling efficiency...
Regular wheel washing will prevent oxidation of the rim lacquer finish.

final assembly

I asked the guy from Midas why the right front was the only rim getting much dust. He seemed to think final assembly point in KC (where they also assemble lighter trucks) was the source. Cheaper pad was put on that side.

thats strange you all, I have an 07 that doesnt have hardly any noticable dust, and I drive a lot more than the average owner. I did have a 04 STX that as traded in that had a horrible brake dust problem. I thought they had corrected it with the 07's...guess not for some.

The Midas guy

That guy don't know what he is talking about. The front pads are not cheaper than the rear. if anything they are OEM pads, just commonly dusty.

In the formula of brake production you cannot have low dust/high performance and long lasting material all in one pad; You have to sacrifice one.

The plant in Kansas City was shut down over a year ago, and new F-150s assembled in Virginia and Michigan are still experiencing heavy brake dust in the front.
