Does it take a while to stop?

I have a 97 F150 super cab and It feels like it takes a while for it to come to a complete stop. Do I need new brake or brake pads. Alot of my buddies have Chevis and GMC and they dot have this problem

could be that I need new brake pads? When I looked though my rims the brakes look rusted. Is this a sign?

If the rotor looks rusted that brake is not working properly. The pad will clean the rotor when it rubs on it to stop. From the sound of your post you need to take it to a mechanic and let him/her fix it.

its a 97 so you probably have rear drums. check and make sure they are adjusted correctly. that can affect pedal travel.

Let's grab the snake from the head...

I agree with Keith, a 1997 F-150 has rear drums. if your rear brakes are out of adjustment, it will decrease your braking performance, since the fronts are doing all the job.

Check the rear brakes for play and/or wear. Does the parking brake hold the truck? Does it sink all the way down? If the answer is yes, you need to adjust the brake shoes.

Hope that was helpful!
