On what year model truck? I assume you mean 5 inches of backspacing and not .5 inches.

A 9 inch wide wheel with 5 inches of backspacing will stick out 1 inch farther than the OEM 17x7.5 inch wide wheels.

The OEM wheel is 7.5 inches wide with 4.5 inches of backspacing. So, the 9 inch wide wheel is 1.5 inches wider but it has 1/2 inch more backspacing. 1.5 inches minus .5 inch equals 1 inch.

I have the same exact rims on my truck, with 33" Terra Grapplers and a 6" Fabtech lift. The tires stick out approximately 1-2 inches, maybe even a little bit more. I did not have to trim...but I do have a lift.

Check my gallery, I have the same wheels. They will stick out 2" over stock. I've had them about 1 1/2 yrs. with no problems, except for the 35's I had on them at first that rubbed.

Keep in mind he has a 2002 not a new truck which has different wheel specs (more backspacing). Also, I doubt you have to trim anything with those wheels.
