wide not tall size needed for 05 F-150

I've got an 05 F-150 4X4 Scab...I think the oem is a 18 inch?? Anyway, I've got to replace my Generals as they're shot. I want to go wider but not taller (don't want to screw with gearing or speedo issues). I also don't want them to look like balloons on there. So how wide can I go with the oem wheels or what do you guys recommend.
Thanks all!

Allen

Your stock wheels are 7.5 wide, you will need to go aftermarket on the wheels to achieve what your looking for. I went with a 2'' AS and did 325-60-18 its a purfect fit.

Look at a 305/65 series tire with 9" wheels.

325's are a little wide for a 7.5 inch wheel.

well, if you figure that the stock BFG rugged trails that are the other tire option (stock) have a 10" section width, your closest bet will probably be a 285/65R18 tire... it is slightly taller than the stock tire, but not by much at all--not enough to produce any negative effects in the gearing or, any noticeable gain on the speedo...
