Tire ??

Hey guys well first of all I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I just recently got an 05 fx4 and love it. However I want to get a 2" AS leveling kit and then some bigger tires. I'm debating know between a 285/70 and a 33x12.50. I also want to keep my stock 17" rims. I think I would like the wider 12.50's and I know some people are running that wide of a tire on their stock wheels but I've seen that its not recommended. Is this for a safety reason or tire wear reason or both? Also for those of you that are running this size I would like to hear some first hand experience. Thanks and sorry for the long post.

It's not a safety concern. It's about tire wear. Sometimes running a tire on a narrower than recommended wheel can cause the center portion of the tire's tread to wear slightly faster than normal. The OEM wheels are 7.5 inches wide and most tire manufacturers recommend an 8 to 10 inch wide wheel for a 12.50 inch (305mm or 315mm) wide tire.

How bad of extra tire wear are we talking about here. Which size would you pick if it were your truck/$$.

If I was keeping the OEM wheels forever, I'd go with the 285's.

Thanks for the advice. You seem to be the tire/wheel expert around here.
