Question Another tire size question

I know that this has probably been addressed several times on this forum, but I have a question. What is the largest tire that will fit on the 18"OEM Lariat rims? I have seen 325 60 18 on some trucks with the factory rims, but looking at this forum, that is not suggested due to the width of the rim. What would would be the negatives to putting that large of a tire on the OEM rim? Tread life, tire preassure, unusual wear, etc? I have installed the AS 2.5 " leveling kit and would like a "beefy" look from the tires. I use my truck for my job, 95% highway travel, so I would like a more agressive looking tire, but without the road noise and that will not off set the speedometer by much. Any suggestions? Thanks for any input!

A lot of member's have been going with the 305x65x18 BFG AT's, these are close to 34 inches tall and not too wide for the stock wheels. I wish they were out a couple of years ago because I would have them on my 18" wheels!

I agree. Some people have fit 325/65-18's on the stock wheels (with a leveling kit), but that is a little too wide for the OEM 18x7.5 inch wheels. Usually, running a tire on too narrow of a wheel can cause the center portion of the tires tread to wear slightly faster than normal.

Thanks for the input. 305's sound like the way to go. I have had experience with the BFG's in the past and they are an excellent tire. I have seen the 325's on the factory rims and they look great, however I do not want or need premature wear, especially with the price of the tires. I was at a tire store yesterday checking out tires and the salesman was really trying to talk me into the 325's. I guess with the chance of premature wear, that would be a benefit for him!!! Faster return for his customers. Anyway....305's it is..... Thanks again.

will 305x65x18 rub at full turn? How about the need to level? What do you think?

I would add a leveling kit personally. A lot of people run 35x12.50's on the OEM wheels and only have minor rubbing at full steering lock. So the 305/65-18 (34x12.50) BFG's should be fine.

wandell,

what would you recommend for the above mentioned setup (04 OEM Lariat SuperCrew with 18" Wheels) then? A set of 305/65-18's? Which leveling kit do you suggest and why? Is the leveling kit a necessity and if not, how much different will it make in the look when going from stock to 305/65's? Thanks a lot...I appreciate it much.

I'm not sure if the leveling kit is absolutely necessary to fit the 305/65-18's using OEM wheels, but it will make the truck look better and guarantee fitment. I'd go with the Autospring kit because of price and ease of installation.

Yep, that's the one. Well, there is only 1/2 difference in height. You may want to measure your truck and determine whether you want to lift the front 2 or 2.5 inches.
