Wheel Sizing - Stick out??
I have an 04 FX4 scab with stock 18's. I am going to get a lift w/ some 35's on 17" wheels. I'm probably getting BFG AT K/O's (315/70/R17). These tires call for 8.5 - 10 rim width. I've been doing some reading trying to grasp what backspacing and offset mean and i'm not getting it.
I've found several wheels i am looking at (6 on 135 bolt pattern) and was wondering what wheel(s) would work best with regard to sticking out the least. If possible, i would like to avoid getting fender flares (not sure if possible).
Diamo DI17 - 17x10 - 5.03" Backspacing - -12mm Offset
Moto Metal 951B - 17x9 - 4.53" Backspacing - -12mm Offset
Pro Comp 8179 - 17x9 - 4.75" Backspacing - -6mm Offset
American Racing Mohave Teflon - 17x8 - 4.5" Backspacing - 0mm Offset
(If I went with the AR Mohave's i would probably go with a Pro Comp AT Tire due to the 8" rim width)
Your help is greatly appreciated!!

A 10 inch wide wheel with 5 inches of backspacing is gonna stick out about 3 inches farther than the stock wheel. A 9 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing will stick out 2.5 inches and a 9 inch wheel with 4.75 will stick out 2.25 inches farther than the OEM wheels. The 8 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing will stick out 1.5 inches farther than the stockers.

JB27, I'm running the 315's on 17x8 with 5 1/2"BS with a leveling kit. These size or stock wheels are needed to run without rubbing on a leveled truck. If you are getting a suspension lift and want to keep them in the wheelwells try a 17x9 with 5 1/2" BS or whatever the lift kit recommend's. Click on the little camera icon to view my pics.
