How much impact does tire weight have on fuel economy?? I'm just curious. I know that diameter and width effect fuel economy. But if you were to get a tire in a similar size, just heavier (d or e rated vs. standard) how much of a difference would that make?? any??

Weight will make a pretty big difference being that the more a tire weighs the more power it will take to get it rolling, but there are so many other factors to consider such as rolling resistance, etc....Stick with a C rated or D rated tire. E rated tires are really unneccessary unless you tow alot of weight every day.

 

Not only will a larger, heavier tire cause you to use more fuel. They also are harder on the brake's, shock's and whole drivetrain in general. My 35's use about 2 mpg more on the average compared to my 33's or my stock tires. The biggest decrease is in city driving.

 

Did you have the speedometer corrected for the larger tires? If not, that may be your difference in mpg.

 

Right. If your speedometer is off, your odometer is off also.
