A few questions...

Looking at getting some new tires soon and am not too familiar with some of the technical stuff. I have a 03 FX4 17" rims.

1. I have heard that you can only go up to 285 without having to change the gearing, is this true?

2. If I go with 295's, would I need a leveling kit, I've noticed that a lot of people on here have them.

3. Can someone explain backspacing or give me a link to something that explains it?

Thanks.

On a stock truck a 285 is the "best" fit, meaning you will have absolutely no issues with rubbing, you can however go up to a 295, 305, or even a 315 (35''). To fit those tires you would need to crank your torsion bars to level out your truck, and use stock rims. Also, you dont have to regear, lots of people run up to 35's (even higher) without regearing although it is probly a good idea if you have the funds.

Here's a good site for you to help you understand backspacing and offset

nah, I have 285's and i really havent noticed any real difference,

stock 265/70/17 - 32x10.50
285/70/17 - 33x11.50
295/70/17 - 34x12ish

There really aint enough size difference to really notice.....go for it, thats a great size, I plan to go with a 295 or 305 when its time for new tires.
