Tread Depth

Why do some tires have 11/32 NEW tread depth in a 275/65/18, but the 275/70/18 has 16/32...

I hate to run tires below 5/32, so getting every bit of tire for my money is well worth it...

What kind of tires are those? I have looked at Toyo, Bf's, Pirelli and Nitto all in the same type of tire and the depth in the different sizes of tire is only 1-3/32. I am thinking of going with 325/55/22 Pirelli A/T depth 16/32.

Tire Rack has a great video site on tire depth.

I wouldn't worry too much about 'new tire' tread depth.

When comparing two tires I divide (mileage warranty) by (cost) to get every bit of tire for my money.

If the 'better' tire had 11/32 tread depth and the one that had 15/32 tread depth, it's probably due to a better Tread Wear Indicator rating.

A couple of years later,
the 11/32 tire may be down to 9/32
and the 15/32 may be down to 7/32

You make a good point... I am just thick headed and think more tread is better... But when comparing the same tire, why would the ratings be different??

The tire I speak of is the New Goodyear Wrangler with Silent Armor.

They ranger fro 11/32 to 17/32.. For the same tire.. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...1=yes&place=17
