My Nightmare

What I did was build a tube from 2" diameter high pressure PVC about 6" long (well pipe), capped one end, put a valve stem in another cap, put some paper towels in the bottom, put the sensors in, some more paper towels (to keep it from rattling), and put the second cap on. Waited for everything to cure properly, and pressurized it to about 30psi. It doesn't take much air, so if you do something like that don't use a regular air hose to pressurize.
So far no light.
Total cost was around $30 and that included the glue (heavy duty). Still have enough tubing to make about 5 or 6 more. Just need the caps and valve stems.
My nightmare on this issue continues now 7 weeks after my wheels and tires were installed...I have been back to Tire shop 7 times now because nylon bands that they installed keep breaking. I bought new Ford issued bands for my 20" wheels and one of those broke when I drove it on the weekend. I'm not overtightening, I'm not even offroading yet. I have no choice but to do what you did... I had the sensors removed and I bought the PVC last night.
I'm concerned because the dealer says that they have to be rotating in order to send the signal.
Kingfish51 Have you had any other issues?

It will work part of the time. What I found out is that the sensors work 2 different ways. At speeds above 20mph and parked. At speeds above 20mph, they send a signal about every 60 seconds. Parked, about every hour to save the battery. The pressure canister does work until you have been driving about 20 mins. Then the light comes on because it has not had a signal for a while. After sitting for a while again no light. Right now I am just living with it coming on after about 20 mins. The canister I made works just fine. It has been holding above 32psi for 3 weeks with no problem. Wish I had a complete answer, but so far no.

I have a friend who knows a guy bla bla bla..
Anyway he works for Ford and got me the same answer you just gave. The real bummer is that the system cannot be turned off. Some early versions 2003-04 could be turned off with a dealer service tool. But because of government mandate we are up a creek. I'm so mad about this. I don't know why we should all suffer because we want to put aftermarket wheels and tires on our trucks. Its down right stupid that some people who don't know how to check their tire pressures, get in an accident and blame the car company and now we all have to deal with it.... B.S. I bet we are not going to be the first or last to deal with this. The TPMS system is going across the board and the mustang guys will be crying as well...

Posted this back in April when I went to 20's. Been working with no issues for 5K+ miles. Inexpensive & easy fix!
Hit me up if you have any questions. Heres the link

Shane,
Thanks for the input. I already bought the Ford Stainless bands. Tightened them to the 3-4 Ft-lbs that was called out in the instructions. It was fine for first 400miles. Then one of the bands broke. On top of that the other sensors had moved from their original location throwing off the wheel balance. (that was with brand new brackets with new tape). If I had known I would have had the guy use some high temp RTV and roughed up the chrome on the inside of the wheel... But regardless I've given up. Throughout this process my tires have been broken down, reassembled and rebalanced about 7 times now. To be honest I don't think the bead will take much more..
I'm hoping I can find some sparky here in the Detroit area to work his majic on my PCM... I mean hell if they can advance spark and change fuel tables you'd think they could force the system to be always on....

I can't believe the aftermarket has not come up with a fix for this in a year.

just browsing thru and found this.

Have any of you guys tried using the valve stem mounted TPS?
I know you have to have them programmed, and im sure they work on an ohm variable signal (although i admit i have never read into it)
I wonder if another vehicle sensor might be able to be programmed?
They are rather pricey from what i hear, so if they dont work it could be an expensive venture...

Shane,
I appreciate it!!! I may have to go back to that if nothing else on the electrical end works.

FYI... Tires rubbed a little trimmed front air dam and fender trim that wraps to the inside of fender. I also drilled holes in the body mount so I could pierce the inner fender and pull it back. Sounds complicated but it took all of 20min.

I looked into this... The Valve stem systems work different than ours plus they are on a different frequency. Thanks though
