285's vs gear ratio

Hey, new to forum hope im in right place. Allright so i have a 06 f150 with a 3" skyjacker lift that i put on yesterday, I'm running 265's right now and i would like to move up to a 285. My problem is when i put the 265's on this truck it fell on it's face, so i can't imagine what a 285 will do. My question is what gear ratio would get this truck some where around the stock final drive ratio again? When i do buy my tires i had planned on getting a auburn posi, along with the gears. I was thinking 4.10. Any opinions or experiences please

Since you have a v6, I'd go with 4.56's at least.

I agree I had 4.10's with 265's and liked it, the extra gear won't hurt with the v6.

Here's the chart: http://www.oly4x4.com/gearratios.htm

You will also need to get the new tire size into the PCM somehow - otherwise speedo error and shifting will be affected.

I didn't notice too much of a difference in performance when I went to 285s. Some, but not much. But then again, I have the 5.4L too...

I would say with 285s and the V-6, go with at least a 4.10 gear to get your bottom end back.

I think 4.10's would be the way to go

I'd try some 4.30 or 4.56's!

4.30 or 4.56. I wish I had 4.56 with my 285/70R17's and 5.4L.

There's a lot to be said for 4.56 gears with 33 and 35 inch tall tires... Those gears are on my wish list...
