will 305/65/17 fit on stock rims?

i have a 2001 f150 4x4 supercrew with the 5.4. its stock right now. if these will fit the stock rims will they fit on the truck by cranking the torsion bars or will i need a leveling kit or a body lift? i do some moderate off roading and are looking to go a little bit bigger! the tires i am looking at are the Pro-comp Extreme A/T. any suggestions are greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!

they might fit without cranking the t-bars but I would recommend doing it to level it out, I did and it looks much better. Don't forget if you do, to get an alignment afterwards....that is basically a 33x12.50R17..

I believe the stock wheels are 17x7 . You will need at least an 8" wide(minimum) wheel for a 305 tire . A 9"-10" wide wheel would work best .

Wrong... They'll fit on your stock rims. Thats what Im running next. It takes 15 minutes to crank your torsion bars and it looks better anyway. Im not real sure you could run the tires with out cranking... If you want the height and they are to wide to run with out cranking your bars, run 285/70/17. They still look great...

I agree. They will fit easily on the oem 17x7.5 inch wheels. I'd crank the torsion bars enough to level the truck out. I'd stay away from leveling kits on 97-03 4x4's, they are unnecessary and cause problems.

You might want to check your info before telling someone they're wrong . Yes the tire will fit on a stock rim . But why do you think every tire manufacturer Goodyear , Nitto and MT to name a few , require 8"-9.5" wide wheel for a 305 tire ? Call around to tire stores and tell them you want to put a 305 tire on a 7.5" wheel , and they will laugh at you . Alot of them don't like to put a 305 on an 8" wide wheel .It pulls the tire in so far at the bead , that it makes the tires tread bulge out in the center . You end up with uneven treadwear , and the tires won't last as long . But don't take my word for it , do some research .

"technically" you are correct! But it can be done and is often done with no problems whatsoever, the tire companies do recommend the wider rim as a safety precaution and a liablility concern or reason to cover their tails and to recommend the "correct" application. Many, many people have run 305 and even 315's for thousands of miles with no problems. You can always find a shop that will put those on for you, I was at one of my local shops the other day and they had put 315/75/16's on some stock 16x7 gmc rims. Just remember that it is not recommended by the manufacturer but if you rotate them regularly and keep the proper psi you shouldnt ever have any problems.

This is something else I could never figure out . Guys want 305's because they are wider . Why in the world would you want to suck the sidewalls in so far to fit a 7.5" wheel ? Why not get a 16x10 , 17x9 or an 18x10 wheel . Trust me , you will like the look much better . A 305 tire is over 12 " wide and people want to put them on a 7.5" wheel , doesn't make much sense to me .

Its all just a matter of opinion on what you like. I would never buy an aftermarket rim when all I have to do is put the tire on your stock rim and save some money. Trust me, I like the look alot better when the wider tires are on the stock rims. Ive seen both. Plus I could never decide on an aftermarket rim. There are way too many choices so I just stick with my stock rims. Just my $0.02
