255/70R16 on stock 2001 F150?

The title says it all.

Does anybody know if BFGoodrich AT T/A LT255/70R16 will fit on a stock 2001 F150 XLT 2x4?

4-Wheel Parts is saying that I'll need a lift, but I have another tire dealer saying they'll fit. I'm confused with the contradictions.

Thanks for your help.

Mike

Whoever told you they won't fit must be smoking crack. I believe that is one of the OEM tire sizes on the 97-03 4x2's. I've seen stock 4x2's fit (barely) 285/75-16's. Personally, I'd suggest going with a 265/75-16.

My 1999 4x2 came from the factory with 255x70x16

I have since upgraded to the massive 265x70x16.

Me thnks that 4-Wheel Parts is trying to sell some lifts.

Yea that is one of the 2 stock tire sizes so it'll fit just fine. I have 265/75/16 BFG Muds on my stock height 02 4x2 so you'll be fine.

OMG..what a dumbass...sounds like they just wanted to sell you a lift. I have 255/70r16s on my 97 2wd and they fit easily. I could have gone as big as 285s if I wanted with still no issues. Put the 255s on there with no worries then go back to the 4 wheel place and show them how stupid they are.

The largest tire that any tire manufacturer will put on a stock 16"x7" wheel is 265/75R16 ... per tire manufacturer charts. Putting a larger tire on the 7" rim voids all warranties, and increases owner liability in event of any tire related accident. Many guys have put 285's on 7" rims without issue, and without tire warranties.
