Cooper STTs on 06 Lariat 4x4 with 18s - Largest size?

I am looking to purchase a set of the cooper discoverer stt's and put on my stock 18" wheels, and I wanted to go as big as possible without any rubbing, add. cutting necessary, other issues...

The guy at this place said that the 275-70-18s were the biggest that I could get on my wheels, but wanted to see if anyone had any additional insight...

Here is a listing of all the sizes that they have for 18" wheels:

http://www.discountedwheelwarehouse....%2DSTT&Sortby=

Any insight that you could provide would be VERY appreciated as I know very little on the subject...

Thanks very much for your help...

Mark

The 275x65x18 Cooper is right under 32 inches tall, you can go up to a 285x65x18 which BFG makes and is right under 33 inches tall. These will fit on the stock wheels easily and not rub on a 4x4 truck. You can get taller and a little wider tires to fit but you would have to put a leveling kit in the front.

if you wanted to level your truck, you could get away with a 305/65/18, a tad over 34 inches tall. mades the truck look real nice. if not, the 285/65/18 fills the fenders up nicely and looks perfect on a stocker.

Re: sizes

Thank you both very much... I appreciate your insight...

I do plan to install a 2" leveling kit, and plan to buy the cooper stt's... What about as far as the width of the tire? how wide of a tire can i safely go on my stock wheel?

Isn't the stock wheel width ~ 9 inches or so? Will I have problems finding someone to install a 12 ~ + width tire on this size wheel?

Stock wheel width is 7.5". Look at tire sizes accordingly. Also if you are going for tire for snow co0nditions, not mud, narrower is better.

basically, i will be using 99% on the road...no snow... possibly a little mud...

If wheel is 7.5 inches wide, won't installers balk at installing 12" + tire or is that not that big of a deal?

They may. Depends on the installers. I personally would not install anything the states it needs at least an 8.5" wide wheel. Just my preference. Some will say it doesn't matter, but they don't do testing for different widths and make recommendations for nothing.

ya some say its too wide of tire to put on a stock rim, but there are plenty on here running 35x12.50 on stock 18's, with a little frame rub. if you do mostly highway driving, i'd go with a 2" level and the 305/65/18 BFG ATs, they will last ya at least 50k miles for sure.
this is hmfic's truck he has the 2" autospring and 305/65/18 BFG's awesome setup

this is goldmembers truck on 305's

i'm not sure if cooper offs a 305/65/18 but im sure they got something close.

I agree. Several members are running 35x12.50's with no problems.

I agree, I have had both the 305/65/18 and 35's both on my stock rims and zero rubbing with my 2" AS leveling kit, go for either but I would get the 35's. Check my icon I have pics of both tires.

Those 305s look reaaally good.. I found a 305/60/18 in the cooper discoverer stts, that I think I will be getting..

Still having problems finding a decent shop around baton rouge, la area to install 2" leveling kit..

Anyone had experience with treads and care, kirks auto, or any other shops around this area?

Thanks again...

Kirks is waaay too expensive. Never dealt with treads and care, but I think they were the cheapest when I priced the 305 BFG's, so maybe they're good on the coopers too. Installing the leveling kit is really easy for a shop, I would take it to a neighborhood mechanic if you can. Give them the directions and see what they tell you - I've seen people charge $200 (Kirk's) and some charge $20. I wish I could recommend a specific place to go, but I can't.

I started to call alignment shops and explained the process to them, and I called one and he said come in and let him take a look at it, so I brought in the truck and kit, and an hour later he had the truck aligned and had the leveling kit on for like 140$ could not have been more happier. I called the local four wheel shop and they wanted 350 400 to do it. SO just call around. Most people that are mechanically inclined will have zero problems doing this, just fine the best deal.

What kind of price did you get on those coopers, Mark?
