Talking 99 F150 rear drum shoes w/112k miles

Hi,
I bought my '99 F150 6 cyl 4x4 new, and didn't do any brake work until the front pads needed replacement at 70k miles. I am very easy on brakes, wondering how many miles most people get from the rear shoes? Truck now has 112k miles. Will be pulling the drum soon and checking them, just in case they're getting thin. Any opinions appreciated.
Thanks.

I suggest that if it's been driven easy, or has a lot of highway miles - 100K+ is not at all unusual. However, best to lay some eyes on them periodically just to be sure.

I have 180k on my ORIGINAL SET. LMAO!

I just changed them last week. The drums acted like they were welded on. Judging by the way the truck was stopping, it was not a have to replacement. But, for peace of mind I went ahead and did it. The shoes still had quite a bit of thickness to them and the drums, well, they couldn't be reserfaced.

I thank GOD I did it though. My driver side wheel cylinder started leaking when I hit it with the brake cleaner. It was rusted completely through.

I wouldn't advise being as oblivious as I was to them. At least, pull the drums off and check them. I didn't do it like I should have. I am just thankful I wasn't cruising down the Autobahn when they went out.

Have a good one!

My manual covers from 97 to 03, and, it says that the trucks came with either drum or disc rear brakes.

Thats all I know about it, is, what the book says. I don't think the option package has much to do with it. Mine is an XLT and it has drums, but, it is also a 98.

drum until 12-98, then disc...

Ford changed the rear brakes to disc halfway through the '99 model year.
Thanks to all for the advice on my original brakes.
