Biggest Tire on Stock 03 FX4
What is the biggest, meatiest, tire I can fit on an 03 FX4 using the stock 17'' rims? The only thing I have done to the suspension is lifting the front end up 2.5'' by cranking the torsion bars... I am willing to do some minor trimming if necessary, but I don't want any rubbing... Would 33's work, or even 35's?

35's will fit, absolute biggest, but they will rub at full lock. Your best best is going to be a 305/70R17 wich is basically a 34x12.50ish, is what I will be going with next time. Not a lot of tires available in that size, but Nitto TG, GY Wrangler MT/R, MAxxis Bighorn and Bucksot are.....

Wandell, your expertise please... I know on the 04s and up you can stick a 35 on there with a leveling kit and no lift, I think a 33 is going to be as big as you can go.
I've got 35s and they are pretty tight, but I also have a 3" BL. I think you should verify this before you buy 35s...

A member at FTW got about 60,000 miles out of a set of 315/70-17 BFG AT KO's mounted on his OEM 17x7.5 inch wheels. You are correct about wear. Sometimes running a tire on too narrow of a wheel can cause the center portion of the tire's tread to wear slightly faster than normal. You have to watch the air pressure. I'd recommend no more than 40 psi for daily driving.

The reason I asked the question originally was I love the look of the stock FX4 rims but planned to lift the truck in the future and wanted to see how big I could fit on the FX4 rim befor deciding on a lift. I am not must for any ofthe aftermarket rims out there and prefer the OEM styling.
Here is what I have learned:
33"s should fit on the FX4 rims
The FX4 stock rim is 7.5"s wide
But how can you tell how tall a tire is with just the number printed on them? (i.e. 295/70-R17)
I know how the numbers work, but they are all in metric except the rim diameter one
Thanks again for all the answers?
