'04 Brake Failure: TSB 050621

Mine's an XL regular cab 6.5' bed which I bought new. I went into the dealer yesterday to have the brakes checked because there was a shudder or pulsating sensation at the steering wheel when braking. The service tech told me the caliper pistons had "****ed" in their bores, causing the front brakes (both) to bind and fail to release fully. This took out both front rotors and calipers. These trucks have the front wheel bearings as part of the rotors. The replacement parts are made by Bosch, so we're paying in Euros. $1,107.26 in parts, $357.60 in labor, plus tax, hazardous waste disposal and shop supplies. This failure is the subject of TSB 050621 and effects all F150s made before about mid-November, 2004. If you've experienced this failure, I'd suggest you go to www.nhtsa.gov and file a complaint. Enough complaints will escalate this from a TSB to a recall, and then Ford will pay for the repairs. Mine has a little over 27,000 miles on it, no hot rodding, mostly around town.
