Tire help quick please! Wandell?
I needed some new tires sooner than I expected (especially since winter is here) and it seems I have found someone who can get me some tires for somewhat cheaper than online. Anywhoo, I'm currently running Goodyear Wrangler AT/S in 265/75/16s on the '99 F-250 LD (basically 150) stock ride height.
Here are the ?s....
1) Mud tires appeal to me from looks - but how to they handle vs A/T on snow/ice?
2) How do they wear? Mostly pavement queen with some offroading.
3) Can I run 285/75/16 with mudders? (I know I can with A/ts, right?)
4) Guy really pushes the Kumho Road Venture MTs. Anybody have anything good to say about them? (I love those or the Toyo M/Ts best) I'm open to suggestions as I see many people running different types.
5) I really am happy with what I have been running but I mainly want a more aggressive look without sacrificing handling (especially in winter) and tread life (is 40K+ too unreasonable?). Otherwise I'm sticking to the NTGs in 285/75/16.
Thanks in advance all - I greatly appreciate the help (again!)

check out www.offroaders.com go to the reviews section and they have manufacturer and peoples personal reviews on almost all AT and MT tires

What is snow? And how does ice get on a highway?
Just kidding, but I have no experience with severe winters. I've always been told that AT's perform better in snow and on ice than MT's. THe Toyo MT's and Kumho MT's are both excellent tires, but it sounds like you will be better off with an AT. If you have a 4x4, you can easily fit 285's.

Well I got a set of new m/ts in 285/75/16 from a local for $525 cash - don't have the truck and can't remember the exact type as of right now although I checked before I sent my truck over and they got good reviews. All the tires I wanted were backordered for weeks to months and online ordering for most was a week to 2 weeks. Planning on a trip next weekend so I needed tires now.
While talking to the auto shop owner, I asked him about a '03 fx4 with a lift and 33s parked vertical on a snowbank - said it was his wifes Then I asked him what he could do for me with a 3" bl installed (which he/she was running - looks awesome) - $550-600 cash. Works for me since I'd never be able to find time (unless I tried to do it at work - lol).
Looks like in spring I'll have something to look forward too - I'll keep the stockers for winter and hopefully will be getting a 3", the bajas (as I planned on before) and stuffing 35s under it (I'm told will fit). Cheaper than buying a new truck! lol...
Just a little update - thanks again for all the help!
EDT: spelled vertical wrong x2... wow I'm tired
