Any time you increase tire size, you will notice an increase in lag, which will feel like a power loss.
Bigger tires are heavier and, unless you change the gear ratio, your truck has to spin a bigger, heavier tire in the same amount of driveshaft revolutions as before. The only way to do that is for the RPMs to go up a bit.
All that being said, you'll be fine with a 4.2 and 285s. If you can any larger than that, I would consider regearing the truck.

it depends on your driving- i have an 00 with the 4.2 with steel wheels and 265's. i do alot of city driving and some highway driving. but im young so i like to go fast(ie switching from 3.55-3.73) if you do more highway driving stick with stock gears and get some mileage. if your doing more city driving and want more get up and go switch to lower gears
