changed brakes now no 4x4

I worked on a 1980 Ford F-150 earlier this week. I did a complete brake overhaul. I put in new rear drums, new rear shoes, spring kits, wheel cylinders. I took the fronts apart and replaced the rotors and pads and packed the wheel bearings while i was in there. When i took the front hubs apart i took the locking caps off but never dissassembled any of the actual locking mechanism. When i gave the pickup back to the guy i did it for the brakes worked fine. I talked to him today and asked about it and he said the 4x4 didn't work but i never dissassembled the mechanism. Everything went back together good when i put the front axle back together too so i am out of ideas as to what is wrong. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem?

Does dumazz know he has to lock the hubs??? You can pick up a new set of warn hubs for $80-100. Tell him to buy the hubs and a case of beer.

Maybe the 4x4 didn't work before the brake job. Just a thought.

Yea, sounds to me like he "MIGHT HAVE KNEW" the 4x4 wasn't working to begin with.

I would go with the new warns and see where it goes from there. The truck is 28 years old. Gotta expect stuff like that to malfunction. The beers will help the process. LOL

I had something similar happen with my 80 F-150 and new hubs fixed it right up.
