2007 F150 Front End Shake When Braking

I have a 2007 F150 Super Crew KR. I purchased it used in October with 23K on it.

I have recently noticed that when I apply the brakes at 70 mph or greater when coming down an incline (like coming out of the mountians on interstate here in AZ) that I get a considerable shake/shimmy in the steering wheel, and a front end vibration throughout the truck.

I don't notice it at lower speeds or on level ground. First I thought warped rotors, but wouldn't warped rotors be noticable at all speeds and driving conditions? I think it's still on the original pads, and it appears that there is quite a bit left still to them.....

Anybody else think it sounds like warped rotors?
Is it just a weird ABS thing on F150's?
Has anybody else experienced a similar problem on thier F150?

Thanks.

JW

Take the rotors off and have them turned. Call and check for costs/prices first. Depending on your area, it may be cheaper to just buy new ones.

...and no, the truck won't necessarily shake at all speeds if they are warped.

If it's a 4x2, they have to be turned on the vehicle. Only remove to turn on the 4x4. If it is not in warranty, I would be tempted to just changing out the front rotors rather than turning them. If they warpped once, probably will again.

Yeah. They are more than likely slightly warped. I had another vehicle that did the same thing. Only shuddered at higher speeds. 45 mph and below, it was fine. I had the rotors turned and it was all good afterwards.

I've been having this problem with my Expedition lately. I've never had to get a quote or had such a problem, how much does it typically cost to have the rotors turned?

I had this happen in my 05 Lexus coming down a hill going 80. I thought it was the ABS?

Yep it’s most likely your rotors. I would either cut them or just replace them and make sure the wheels are properly torqued down (torque and sequence). That’s the number one reason for warped rotors. At my shop we charge $90 to cut the front rotors.

Mine does that when slowing from 42-39 mph no matter how much pressure your at. dad says after 160K miles its time for new brakes? dunno why a brand-new truck would need replacing so soon

Funny. I actually have gone to a local Autozone and they turned them for free on my ma-n-law's expedition.
