Hum coming from front end, ??
Hi guys.
My first post on the Forum. I would like to say, this seems like a great forum, ive done a lot of reading on subjects, learned a lot along the way; yet i can't seem to find any help on a problem im having with my truck.
I have a 2001 F150 XLT Super Crew 4x4, 4.6.
Currently my truck has almost new tires. I replaced my tires in July and they are inflated properly, balanced and the chasis seems to be aligned properly.
My brakes are very worn and need to be changed. I just purchased 4 new rotors and pads and all the other cleaning supplies, lubes and what not to do a complete brake job. I even plan to put fresh DOT fluid in the system. No pulsing, just the squeeeeeek when i go to to stop. I took a peek at the bads they are very thin and my rotors look a tad bad; ultimately it was more cost effective in my area to replace the rotors than to turn them. So any how; truck stops smooth just noisy.
My issue at hand is a "humm" or almost a pulsing "humm" i get from my front end. Seems to me to be from the left front wheel. The sound is such as like, "mmmmm, mmmm, mmmmm" if that makes any sense. At first examination it seems like the tire tread doing it; but it seems that this is not the case. The tire wear is good, still does it after a tire rotation, and still does the mmmm, mmmmm, mmm even driving on soft sand or snow.
Its not extremely loud; about as loud as you would expect it to be if it was indeed the tread of my tire doing it. I hear it best at about 25-35 mph but hear it and know its there at cruising speeds. When making a long sweeping turn on the highway around a long curve it seems as if the sound goes away.
Any ideas? Im leaning toward a wheel bearing?? Does a bad bearing make this sound of sound? Again there is no pulsing, either on or off the brakes or shakes to the steering wheel, but the hum'n pulsing noise and vibration is there.
If indeed this is a bearing; ive seen they are 180 each at Autozone...ouch. Any help on better prices? I seen them on Ebay for 100 each.
Any help is appreciated.
