285's on a 4.6 how bad does it kill it?

i have an 04 f150 supercrew and i'm looking at putting a leveling kit in it and rims and tires. i was gonna go with 285's but with the 4.6 they aren't a powerplant but don't want to completely kill it's power. anyone got any pics with 285's on their F150. how much do the tires kill the power?

You will be in good shape. I think the newer generation (yours) of 4.6L's have a few more horespower and pounds of torque than mine (2000 Triton). I upgraded to the 285/70/17 BFG A/T's on my truck and did not notice ANY loss of power. Additionally I have not seen any discrepancy with the speedometer. During my drive to work I routinely pass by one of those radar on a trailer deals with the big LED this is your speed sign and it always corresponds with what my factory speedometer says.

Enjoy the upgrade to your ride, post some pics!

I have the 285's and love them. I would recommend a tuner though. The Edge really helps.

I agree with the rest, no problem with the tires just add a tuner.

Wow, I can't believe so many think that is acceptable. I don't even like the 5.4L with 285/70R17's and 3,73 gear! Everyone's butt dyno is different. If you want to upgrade, at least go with a light (read p-rated) tire.

I have an 06 4x4 scab with the 4.6 and I just put 33x12.50 Cooper STT's on this past weekend and I can't tell a difference in the power. I don't feel as if it lost anything. I have put a few hundred miles since buying them and I love it!!
