Replacement Tires for Factory 20" Pirelli's?
With the new truck on order, I'd like to have the dealer switch out the P-Metric Pirelli 20" tires with an LT tire for the purpose of towing. I expect they'll ride a little rougher, but oh-well... it still won't be like my F-250. I like the BFG T/A's, but have no idea what size tire will fit the factory optional 20" aluminum wheel without rubbing issues. I do not want to install a leveling kit, but I want full turning as I will be cranking a 28 foot tarvel trailer in some tight spots. I'd opt for another brand like Cooper, but I think I'm limited. I like the aggressive T/A tread, and I think they will give some life to the King Ranch over the sissy-looking Pirelli's.

I just picked up an o8 with the 20's and had the junk Perrellis taken off right away!
I put on Goodyear Silent Armor 275/55/20.
I love the GY and have had 5 sets so far. At least 55-60 thousand or more out of each set and great in the Mud and Snow.
I was told that 275/60/20 would fit without rubbing........WRONG
We tried a set of these first and at full turn they DO rub at full turn on a stock FX4....and thats sitting still. If you hit a bump with the wheel just right....LOTS of rub.
Stick with the stock size and you will be good.

How will I know if the BFG's will fit, or present rub problems? It looks like the Cooper's are stock size, so I assume very close to the Pirelli dimensions.

a friends dad has them on his 06 lariat. they look really nice and he says he hasnt seen any loss in mileage. the 20's looks way better and are beoming a more popular tire size than a 18, getting to be a small tire size. trust me get them and you wont be sorry.

The 285/55/20 is about a 1/2 inch wider than the 275/60 but its about 3/4 of an inch less in diameter. I am running 305/55/20's on the stockers and my truck is stock height, they do rub slightly at full steering lock so if thats a concern, you want to stay under a 12" wide tire on the oem 20's. As far as diameter, IMO, I would not put anything less than a 33". The stock 275/55/20's just look too small for a 4x4

Look at my other posts. I just had the dealer order Michelin LTX A/T2's for my 2008 to trade out with the factory Pirelli's. They came in last week and I stopped in to see them. They are LT285/55R20's if I recall correctly, but man do they look nice. I called Michelin/BFG (same company) to ask what they thought. They said that the T/A's were probably going to be dropped soon, and the LTX will take their place. I was in awe when I saw them as they looked huge. I actually had to go check their size. The guys at the dealer couldn't believe how nice the looked. I'll be getting the truck shortly, so I'll post some pictures then.
