35' tires on 98 F150?

I just got my first truck and it is a 1998 F150 4x4 XLT with the 4.6L engine. I am wanting to lift it and get 35' tires but cant afford a 6in lift. Would the tires fit with a 3in body lift? Would i need to crank the torsion bars?

From what I've heard (I don't have my lift on yet), I don't think you'll need to crank. I mean, if you start rubbing, you'll know that you need to, so it's not like you need to go buy something different / new.

And again, as stated in teh other section, there are a lot of people running 35's.

Thanks, also do you think i will have to re gear when moving up to the 35's?
I think my truck has a towing package and my dad says it has 4.10 gears or something like that.

There are several folks on here that 35's with a body lift. A lot of them have cranked the torsion bars too to level out the truck. Most like you will have to also because depending on the tire you get, you will have to trim a little off the lower valance on the front bumper to clear the tire. Its nothing major, mostly just that bottom part that is attached to be part with the fog lights in it. As for the gears you probably don't have 4.10. The lowest from the factory was 3.73 and most of the trucks have the 3.55 which is prob what you have beings you have the 4.6. You will loose some power with the 35's but again several are doing it with no probs.

I agree. If you have 3.73's, you will probably be ok. If you have 3.55's you will probably want to regear with 35's.

i had 35's on my 97 with just a 3" body lift. i did trim my bumper a little but did not crank the torsion bars. as far as gears i had the 3.55's in mine and it was ok a little rough on the highway at 70mph but as far as around town it did fine.

I checked my gearing and it looks like i have the 3.55 (tag on diff said 3L55). With that i would need to regear for 35's? If so, how much would regearing cost? If not, how big of a tire could i run with the stock gears?

sparkysakitas: did you have the 5.4L or 4.6L in your truck

yeah the power was there. you should do fine in the mud the only place i saw trouble was getting up to highway speeds for passing etc in the 70 mph range. other than that i had them on my truck for about 80,000 miles with out any issues

anywhere from 1500 to 2000 if you have a 4x4 and do both axles.

Whoa!

It's more like $1000 to 1500 in my neck of the woods.

Maybe for one axle... Im also including the price of the gears and master install kit.

The cheapest Ive ever seen a final price was 1600... and that was out the door!
