Here is a pic of my truck with the 265/70/17s on factory wheels. As you can see, there is plenty of room for the 285s.

Sorry for bringing this back up but I have gone to a few tire places the last few days and they have told me 285/70/17 wouldnt be smart because i have a 18" wheel. They gave me prices on 285/60/18 and 285/65/18 and I was leaning toward the 2nd 1. but when I was told the 285/65 was $80 more a tire its really starting to change my mind. Is there anywhere yall would reccomend to find something cheaper than like $285 for a bfg at ko? or any other kind of tire like it that is a little less?

sorry for bringing this topic back up just didnt want to start a new thread for it.

I like to go here to decide what I want. The Cooper Zeon is supposed to be a great reasonably priced tire.

I'd suggest a 285/65-18 (33x11.50) or a 33x12.50-18.

You can only get the Nitto Terra Grappler and BFG All Terrain in a 285/65/18.

Alright, you guys are failing to realize. This kids a paintball ref, and knows NOTHING about what your telling him in regards to tire ratios..... HE HAS 18" WHEELS AND DOESNT UNDERSTAND THAT YOU GAVE HIM A TIRE FOR A 17" RIM! Try to convert the aspect ratios for him so he can go outside and measure the wheelwells and see if thats what he's looking for. Trying to help him learn a little bit here.

By the way barrett, here's a given tire size : xxx/xx/17 . The last two numbers corresponds to the size of wheel the tire is going on. The first three x's represent section width, the next two x's represent sidewall aspect. Just because the numbers are bigger, DOES NOT always mean the tire will be bigger. You can research this information, or find a conversion table online and get how many inches tall/wide these tire widths your being given really are. Good luck.

thanks for the help guys, and 05f150screw thanks for the help, I have a tire size calculator in my favorites. I think I understand the whole measurement thing, just I can be kinda stupid at times and didnt realize the 17"wheel bit before. Thanks for the help though.

Is there any tire that is like the Nitto terras or bfg a/t but possibly cost a little bit less in a 285/65/18?

There may be, but the Nitto is a great value. One of the best all terrian tires available at a good price.

Just curious, but what are the prices you are seeing on the 285/65R18? I was thinking around 260 for some BFG's. Seems like a heck of a lot just to get a wide tire. I had 33X12.5R17 on my 03 FX4, and while i liked them, they seemed to float a little bit compared to a slightly smaller width. Just didnt know with being 2wd, like my 05 Screw, you might consider a thinner tire that would be less expensive, and possibly drive better on the highway. Just wondering exactly what you need.
