Question Hub centering rings for new wheels?? wandell?

I just put a set of Eagle Alloy 026's on my truck.... they are 22x9.50". They are balanced and on there but I am still noticing some vibration in the steering wheel at certain speeds...

I just stopped at a local shop here and as soon as he pulled one of the fronts off to check it we noticed that the wheel doesn't marry up to my hubs to center them (basically relying on the lugs I guess).

do I need a set of hub-centering rings? should they have come with my wheels?

The Eagle wheels, like almost all aftermarket wheels are lug centric. A set of hubcentric rings may cure your problem.

I'd check with your shop or your Eagle Alloy dealer.

the shop where I got them tells me they are indeed lug-centric wheels and that i shouldn't need hub-rings.....

i'll have to see how much play there was between the center of the wheel and the lip that comes out from the hub.

relying on the lugs alone has pontential for the wheel to be off center every time does it not?

Most all aftermarket wheels are lug centric and very few people use the hub centric wheels (I don't). However, if you are having a vibration problem they may help with the problem. I'm not certain as I've never used them.

trust me it makes a huge diff

I got my new wheels put on last week (sorry haven't been able to get any pics yet), but they forgot to put on the hub centric rings and I had very bad driving wheel shimmy left right and vibration. I went back and had them put on the hub centering rings - bam! All issues solved.. smooth as a baby's behind now.

It made a HUGE difference.

the backside of my wheels look to have a large counterbore where something could fit in there flush.... would the rings fit into this pocket and then marry up with hubs?

did you wheels come with them, or did you purchase them somewhere else?

came with them

They came with them. They actually came with 8 rings, 4 black and 4 green. The mechanic said that the front and back hubs are slightly different in size.. so the black ones went on the front and the green ones went on the back. I don't know if he was full of bull or whatever, but after he put those on man it was smooth sailing!
