Carquest Blues = no dust = BS

Oh ya, you should be cool, how they working? Are they physically "blue" in color? That indicates blue pads obviously but the blue line has black backed pads which are ceramics. I have these on the backs and they work nice. They were BCD not BMD as the part number started, B for "blue" C for ceramic, M for Metallic. I won't buy stuff starting in "G" .

Something nobody has mentioned in this thread is how the truck is driven & in what conditions, I think that is a HUGE factor in this dusting discussion. We've had 2 sets of CarQuest Blues & both wore out in about 24K miles & were replaced free no questions asked, the last time I paid the difference & got the Gold ceramics as I was sick of changing out pads every year! I did notice this AM that the Golds have started dusting more (or so it seems) then they had been but also the truck hasnt been washed in quite awhile - not sure how many miles probably 1500 or so. The blues had about as much dusting as the OEM pads did. We live in the mountains so the brakes get used a lot around here & though we dont "ride the brakes" or abuse the vehicle it does tend to go through brakes quickly (or so it seems to me).

Mixed city/hwy driving for me, hardly tow, once in a while a bobcat trailer 18 ft with my Galaxie on it. Even still, no dust. I've driven through mountains on the east coast, Virginia, N.C, etc with no difference. I'm average on braking too, some wait till there's 10 ft left, then brake. The Gold ones I had were Metallics as it turns out and dusted worse than OEM ones if I remeber right. The noise killed me so they were replaced.

I've always had very little dust with OEM pads and after trying some after market pads, stick with the OEM pads. I drive fast and brake hard too, all the time - well most of the time. Thinking of trying something else though. I've had the right rotor warp a couple of times. I about to do a major overhaul, long overdue, 180k miles.

Hey Bluejay, where do you get the Wagner ThermoQuiets from. I was going to go with the blues, but with all the mixed comments, maybe I will go with something I have seen no negatives on. Also did you turn/replace your rotors when you put on the new pads. I have heard that trying to turn the OEM rotors is not good and will probably end up warping. If I do turn them, and they do warp, can I just buy a new set of rotors later and keep the same pad? I am used to having to change pads when I do anything with the rotor to make sure that they mate together nicely.

Haha...I'm just giving people a hard time from other Carquest Blue threads. I do wish they dusted a little less with the driving I do they're dusty by the middle of the week easy.
Has anyone tried the Hawk pads? I'd like something a little more aggressive but I'm thinking they will be ridiculously dusty. The EBC mentioned I do not see made for the F-150.

I certainly agree with bluejay,,,does seem like the thermo quiets are about the best for the money for your average daily driver. I don't think you can beat them, considering the price and the fact that it will be many many thousands miles before you have to replace them. There around $50 for front and about the same for rear. I was suprised that my back ones (OEM) were literally half worn down at 20k miles. Ford must put the cheapest crap pads on there trucks. You can get them at O'riellys. I'm itching to try the Hawk LTS up front,,,,, but i need some feedback on increased stopping ability, but not intrested in spending 80-90 bucks just to try them, after buying all the Wagner TQ pads. I doubt they grip better, if any, than the thermo quiets. (w/stock rotors) It made a BIG diff. by bedding the pads in,,, and adjusting that pushrod out just abit. But still have that spongy feel. Did you get the Hawk pads in just the front or the rear too? And what Hawk pad did you go with? They make several different ones for the F-150.

I got to ask if anyone is using the EBC greenstuff? such as the 6000 series. I'm just after the best gripping ability, or bite, with stock rotors. Its sad about these whimpy brakes on these 5000+ lbs trucks. I'm sick of that spongy feel. My wives 2000 grand marquis has much larger front pads,,, buddy it will stop on a dime and give lots of change back. I did talk to some one at an Auto zone one day, and he said his '08 FX4 did not have that spongy feel, i think engineers must have did some design change finally. Didn't mean to get side tracked ..... rossford
