Picked up my tires today...But

So i picked up my BFG AT KO's (305/65/18) today and they look awesome.
But... one of the tires looks like it was used or something. It doesnt have the normal sticker like the other three, the white walls are not coded like the other three, and the biggest thing that is different is that there are no little rubber spikes (for lack of term) on that one tire they are worn down. I mentioned this to the sales guys and they told me that sometimes that happens and is all normal, needless to say i wasnt pleased so i made them order me a new one. They were ****s about it, but at $290 a tire i think i have the right to have one that doesnt look used (even if it isnt).

Has anyone experienced this before, is this normal, am i being unreasonable making them order me a new one? I dont think so, but i want to see what you guys think.

I agree that paying that much for a tire that it should match the rest. Good choice on the BFG's, I've got about 25k on mine and they still look new. I've only rotated them 3 times. Can't wait to see them on the new wheels.

I just watched a video clip from another thread about the shelf life of tires. After watching the video, i went out and checked the numbers on my tires, they are 4007, which means they were made in the 40th week of 2007. I also just got a get of general grabber at2's for my finance's xterra and those numbers were 0808, meaning made in the 8th week of 2008.

So i don't think i got a bad batch of tires, they just didn't have the center nipples. They did have the outside ones though...

I just watched that video and then checked out my tires. The 3 matching ones were made on the 16th week of 08 (1608). The tire that looks different, no rubber spikes, looks used etc etc, was made on the 42nd week of 07 (4207).

Of course Dan......

you could have 1 tire that was made on the 10th week of 08' {1008}, but was used for two weeks by a different customer, who then decided he wanted bigger, badder > more expensive tires, and an unscrupolous tire dealer, took them back to make a bigger sale, then tried to get over by pawning them off, 1 here, and 1 there, as "new"......

Then your other three could have been made 6 months earlier (so what would that be ? 3707 ?) But actually be in better shape than the 1008's, because they were never used.

Anyway, you did the right thing to make them reorder a new one for you.

Peace,
Fish

That Makes sense Chris.

That is probably what happened with the tire i have now. It was part of a set that was traded in and i was the unlucky person who got one sold to me as new. And that could be the reason they gave me an attitude when i said something about it, because i called them on it. Its a Town Fair Tire, a big tire chain in New England, just goes to show you its hard to trust anyone now adays. But oh well, i'll pick up my new tire tomorrow and be done with them. I'm having them mounted at a local Tire Shop that svt2205 (a local F150online member) recommended.

I'll forget all about this next week when my wheels come in and everything goes on my truck.

All the more reason to buy from the local guys who actually earn your business. I wont buy from places like Townfair because they act like it's a priviledge to buy from them...

Dan, I'm sure Mike and crew will take good care of you.

I would of bought the tires from that local shop as well, but unfortunately the price was over $350 a tire through them, and every other local shop around. One shop even quoted me $380 a tire. I had Town Fair Tire price match sears. Sears had them for $297, and i ended up getting them for $290 at town fair tire after a little wheeling and dealing. So thats the absolute only reason i bought them there.

Update

So i went back to the tire shop, delbt with one a-hole and one nice guy. When i asked to pick up the tire, the a-hole said "he's exchanging a tire because its dirty" lol. I gave him a peice of my mind and he shut up after that. The other guy that actually brought the tire out to me was very nice, and understood why i was exchanging the tire right when i saw it and said he would of done the same thing. Only thing that irratated me a little bit is that he said the tires sucked on the road. He said they are great everywhere else except on the road in the snow. He then went on to tell me that the snow gets caked up in the tread and has no where to go, so the tires just spin. Kind of a bummer to hear that as i was looking for a tire that would be good in the snow as well. But many of you on here have said these tires do just fine in the snow, some even say the are awesome in the snow. So i'll keep that in mind and take this ones guys opinion with a grain of salt. I'll just form my own opinion once it starts to snow.

So anyways i got my new tire, and its brand new and in the same condition as the other 3 i have now. It even has the same exact manufacturing date as the other 3 so thats a plus (1608). Now i just sit here and try to wait patiently until my wheels come, easier said than done though lol.

End of my tire purchasing saga.
