BFG AT Owners

So for those of you with BFG AT KO's, how do you like them so far?
I've had mine for about a week now, they are 305/65/18. Besides the shaking issue's i've had which actually turned out to be balancing issues, i'm pretty happy with them. I think they look awesome on my truck.

The one thing that is bugging me about them though, is that they seem to be a really stiff ride. I can feel every single bump i go over and it gets a bit annoying if going down a crappy road (which is most roads in this state). Before i put these tires, wheels, and leveling kit on my truck it road very smooth. I thought maybe it might be the leveling kit thats making the ride stiff, but after searching on here about it, it seems that those do not affect the factory ride.

So, is it normal for these tires to produce a rough ride on the road when going over bumps etc etc....and for anybody else that has these tires what's your experience's and opinion's with them?

The do look awesome though.

What PSI are you running? I run 35psi in my 35's, I only fill them up when towing.

It's an 8 to 10 Ply Tire

It's the sidewall that is making then ride so stiff. Your stock tires were 2 or 4 ply and ran at a much lower tire pressure. All of that helps the ride...a lot.

About all you can do is play with your tire pressure and see if you can find something that is more tolerable to you. Keep in mind that if you run the tires to soft they will not wear very well and over inflation is not good either. The general rule is to start at 20psi lower than the tires max pressure and adjust from there.

Good luck and that tire is the best A/T out there in my opinion.

The max tire pressure for 305/65/18 LR E tires is 65psi, i currently have them on 45psi which is what the tire shop put them on. I'm just glad to know that the ride i'm experiencing is normal with these tires and that something is not wrong with my truck etc etc. Anyways, maybe i'll try dropping the psi a bit and see how that goes. Thanks guys.

i've had my 305/65/18's on for almost a month now... i've noticed that the ride is a lil stiff but thats what is expected with a tire that is 8 or 10 ply. I have mine set a 35 psi and its not too bad ride wise... i'm just wondering if thats too low of a psi for proper wear???

personally, i keep mine inflated to 40 psi. to the OP, you will get used to the difference in ride w/ a little time. it is an excellent tire. you will not be disappointed by its performance.

Try dropping down to 40-42psi and see how they ride. My 315's are load range D and 50 psi is the max. They ride and wear great at 45 psi. My set of Toyo AT's ride rough at even 42psi. Each tire is different.

I've had a set of BFG AT KO's for about 4 years and they are an awesome tire (at least 75,000 kms on them). Long tread life and great in the snow and mud. I will be buying another set when these are done (likely next year). I run 40 psi in mine, they are a stiff tire but that doesn't bother me.

I run 40 psi in mine. It seems to be the happy spot with these tires. I have 265/75/R17, It seems like if I run more they quiet down some but they ride ruffer. If I go lower that ride nicer but they get noiser. They blow the old RTS's out of the water.

If those are LR E tires, it is not too low for wear, it is too low for safety. Too low a pressure, will cause heat, blowouts, and tire separation.

From reading the above post's, i think your safest bet would be in the area of 40-45psi. I still have mine at 45psi and i'm getting used to it, starting to like the little bit rougher ride. I can always drop it down a bit if need be, and i might do it just to try it out and see how it drives. But i wont go below 40psi.

40 PSI... but one of mine is wearing weird, the inner tread is melting together, so the siping is dissappearing. Very weird. I'ma take em back to my old work where I bought and see if I can get them to warranty it.
