03 expedition fitment question

about ready to replace my Cooper discoverer H/T's at 50+K miles.

Stock size is 265/70/17. I'd like to know if a 285/70/17 (toyo) or a 295/70/17 (Nitto) or 285/70/17 (BFG) will fit w/out suspension alterations (such as the AS level, or daystar level). I will be re-using stock rims. Looking for a 33" tire. minor alterations of the valance and well liner not a problem.

The coopers wore well, excellent grip on dry and wet pavement. Not bad in some gravely roads. Had only 1 small chance to see them in snow in NJ in the last 2 years - tires did not grip well. Hoping to find something that has the good road manners and will give better traction in snow.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I would assume its a 4x4. If so, you can fit 285's with no mods whatsoever and they are a great size. The 295's can probably fit no problem you might have to do a little trim to the valence. You can always crank the t-bars to level it out a little and help with the fitment, all that requires is an alignment afterwards. Also consider the GY Wrangler SA, good in the snow.

The 03's don't have torsion bars, they have IFS and IRS with coilover shocks. Also, the 4x4's and 4x2's sit at the same height. You should be able to fit a 285/70-17 (33x11.50), 295/70-17 (34x12.00) or a 305/65-17 (33x12.50) using the oem wheels. I have 305/45-22's (33x12.50-22) and I'm at stock height.

Everyone gets the 03 confused because the 03 Expy's were redesigned and the F-150's were not redesigned untill 04.

thanks guys, especially Wandell

Wandell, you have answered questions like this for me a few times. I hope I am not being too repetitive. I am getting close to making a decision and frankly, I am overwhelmed by the choices, sizes, ratings, etc. Oh, and the prices too

Sounds just like me!

I keep looking at websites, but its hard to decide on style and size. I have an 03 Expy EB - and like the look of Wandells wheels, but I need more tire as otherwise the rims will get too much abuse!
