Daily driver tire?

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forums, but I have been doing a bunch of searching on new tires for my '99 F150 that I have had for about 2 months now. It's a black, extended cab, 4x4, off road package truck with the stock 17s on it. I am looking for new tires that will be good in the snow, and for some light off roading.
I do a decent amount of towing with the truck as well, mainly an aluminum car trailer with a 3000lb car on it.

I can't decide if I want to stick with the stock 17s, or get a set of 16s since I have seen some awesome deals on them through some of the site vendors, lol. I was thinking about going with some 285/70 17 Nitto Terra Grapplers on the stock wheels? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yeah that would be a good option. Great size, for an upsize you will fill up wheel wells without having to modify any.

Also consider, GY Wrangler Silent Armor, Toyo OpenCountry AT, BFG TAKO....

They are all terrains, so they prolly handle snow decently. They won't be great, but wont be bad. Just so so. Alot better than MT's.

The Nitto terra grappler is a great tire, of course I would have to try to go with the 295x70x17's!

Will I have any problems with rubbing if I go with the 295/70/17 Terra Grapplers? Discount Tire Direct has them for cheaper than the 285/70/17s so I was going to go with the 295s. If I have to trim the valence a little, that's no problem.

I have a few other ideas for some simple mods, and I'll be sure to post pics when I get everything sorted in a couple weeks.

The Nitto Terra Grapplers work great in the rain haven't tested them in the snow yet.

Figured that I'd post this back in this thread instead of starting a new one.

I have been looking into getting a new set of wheels to go along with some new tires. I have been looking into getting a set of either 16x8's or 16x10's. The wheels that I am looking at are the Eagle Alloy Type 187 and Mickey Thompson Classic II's. I see that the load rating on the Eagle Alloy's is only 2100 lbs per wheel. This concerns me since I do some towing (about 6-8 weekends a year) with a car on an aluminum open trailer, total weight approximately 4000lbs. Will I be alright with the 2100lb load rating, or should I go for the Mickey Thompsons that are over 3000lb load rating?

I'd like to stay with a 33" tall tire for now, and will go with either a 2 or 3" body lift in the near future to go along with the new wheels and tires. Will the 8" with 4" of backspacing look good? I know the 16x10's with 4.5" of backspacing look really good on wandell and keith_bennett's trucks.

I personally think a 10 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inches of bs looks best on the 97-03 trucks. 33's will look great at stock height or with a body lift. If you plan on a body lift in the near future and want a 33 inch tire, I'd go with 10 inch wide wheels for sure and a wide (305 or 325mm) tire like a 305/70-16 or 325/60-18.
