Nitto or Cooper??

I will be in need of new tires soon and need help making up my mind.

My current setup includes:
2.5" Leveling kit
315 70 17 Mickey Thompson MTZ's
4:10 Gears
Volant Powercore Intake
SiSo Maganflow
Hypertech Tuner

I have just under 40,000 miles on my MTZ's and will need new tires soon. I have decided to drop back down to 33's because Im tired of the 35's rubbing and I want better gas mileage. I have narrowed my choices to either a
295 70 17 Nitto T.G. which I used to run or a 295 70 17 Cooper STT. Will there be a difference in gas mileage between the two? Weight comparison and tread aggresion? I really like the looks of a more aggresive tire but also want better fuel economy. Also, how loud are the STT's? I love my MTZ's but dont want to spend that much money right now. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

I have 305/50/20 nitto terra grapplers, and i have had them for 25k miles and they are already worn out. These tires suck. I even rotated every 3k miles, i wouldnt buy them if i were you.

Cooper is currently having many quality control issues. I wouldn't buy Coopers on a bet right now .

I have cooper stt's and so far so good. I love them. I'm surprised how quiet and smooth they are considereing how aggressive they are. Plus the tread pattern is the exact same as the toyo open countrys. As far as longevity I'm not sire. I only have 500 miles on them. But I feel its a good buy.

Coopers hands down over ANY NITTO product.

But theres better choices... TOYO's, BFG TA KO's, Mickey Thopmson ATZ's or MTZ's like you already have. Maxxis Buckshot's

I know there are better brands out there but I dont feel like spending the money for them. My dad has a shop and he can the Nittos, Cooper, Kumho, to name a few. I can get the Cooper STT's for below $200 a piece and mount and balance myself so it wont be that expensive. Just looking for some pros and cons of the two as far a road noise, wear and fuel economy.

even after all the crappy reviews?

In the last 2 months i havent had anyone tell me anything good about them.

All seem to be wearing quickly even with proper rotations.

The only good thing i can think of is that they are a smooth quiet riding tire? Is that really worth it?

Like i stated like 4 months ago "i will never buy a NITTO product for my truck"

To be honest, these are about the only negative reviews I've read on the Terra Grapplers. I have friends with them and they are all happy. I've also read dozens and dozens of great reviews on. I guess you can't please everyone.

Yeah i geuss you are right.

I just would expect more out of a AT thats not even that aggressive. i havent had anyone get over 40k with a set and as low as 24.2k

But they are cheap. and you can find some killer deals i saw them as low as 129 for a 33" tire

Terra Grapplers? Dune Grapplers? Mud Grapplers?

Or do you have some type of low-pro tire?

Im really only talking about tires that id use for my truck and terra grapplers and mud grapplers both SUCK IMO

And i havent heard to much from the DUNE Grapplers good or bad.

I've had my STT's for about 800miles now. I love the aggresive look of them. Ride quality is great and the noise is pretty quiet in my opinion but I have not ran anything other than candy *** A/T's in the past so not much to compare to. I rub at the corners of my wheel wells because they are 325 but in the size you stated and you currently have 35 that shouldn't be a problem.

I am emailing this to my work account. My company is 49% or so owned by Cooper Standard, separate from Cooper Tire, as of 3-4 years ago. Needless to say we are stuck with their material but they cant send us any consistant quality compound to use. No matter which of the three plants we get it from.

i recommend the STT's but you may want to wait till they get their raw material issues figured out, separate entities but sounds like similar problems
