Toyo M55

I love these tires and have had them on Diesel 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.

My question is has anyone run them on a 1/2 ton?

I spend 40-60 days a year in the forest, managing wildfires, and I need a tire that I can count on. These have earned my trust and I know they would serve me well in the mountains, but will I be able to stand them the rest of the year?

They are available in 235/80 17, 245/75 17, and 265/70 17.

All are 31.9 tall, the width is from 9.3 to 10.6.

I am leaning towards the 245/75 17 as the best all season, all purpose, tough tire for my needs.

Am I missing anything?

Rusty

They look to be commercial versions of an all terrain tire. Probably overkill for a 1/2 ton. I would just go with some thing like a BFG KO, that should fulfill your needs nicely. If your looking for more of a mud tire, try the Toyo's MT's.

The industrial/commercial part is what I need. I drive 2-3000 miles a year on logging roads, off road, in remote parts of the west coast managing fire fighting operations.

These tires will not puncture, rip or tear easily. I have seen countless rock puncture flats out there and that costs me money if it is my rig.

I never had a flat on my f350 Powerstroke with M55s, that is the kind of record I would like on my f150.

My feeling is that none of you guys have tried this type of tire on these trucks.

I will report back once I buy mine.

Just FYI, the BFG is 10 ply tire just like your Toyo. Good luck puncturing that.

With all due respect sir,

I was looking for feedback from someone who has experience with the M55 tire, not what brand you think I should buy.

The loggers, linemen, railroaders are running M55, not BFG KO.

The KO may be a great tire but it isn't what I am looking for advice about.

FWIW I am pretty sure Les Schwab carries the BFG tires (correct me if I am wrong) and they (2 different stores) have both agreed with my choice based on my intended use.

I have a 98 F150 that I have the 245/75R16 M-55's on. I have put 70K miles on these tires and I swear they are still good for another 30K+ miles They grip great off road and in the snow too.

How do they ride?

They ride great. They don't transfer as much vibration as you'd expect over the bumps and rough surfaces. They make a little road noise but just enough to know they are there.

Thanks for the info.

What pressure are you running in them, how is the wear pattern?

More recently I was running high pressures to get a little more MPG, and not too bad of ride either. B/c of high pressures they are showing a little more wear in center so I'll be airing them down some. I'll probably go back to something closer to factory truck specs with a little less in the rear (unless I'm going to carry a load.) Wear is fairly even all around since I rotate every 10K miles or so.
