MPG and tiers NEW TRUCK GUY!!

Hi everyone my name is mike and I'm new to this forum and i just got my hand on a f150 truck and i love the truck its a 2003 reg cab reg bed 5.4 liter 4x4 with 3.55 gears. so the truck sits stink bug right now and i have a tier and mpg question. right now I'm driving it like a grand pa and i want to get it set up for off roading mainly sand and mud. I drive it about 50/50 freeway and city its my daily driver and i avg at about 19mpg i was thinking about setting it up like my dads he has a 03 also 4dr 31in tiers stock level kit and 373's its the lariat model. i was wounder what kind of mpg i would get with 3.73 gears limited slip leveling kit and 16in rims with 32's my dad avg at high 16's low 17's as far as driving i drive it right on the streets speed limit and keep my foot off the gas but once i hit the dirt or sand then my led foot kicks in.

Thanks
mike

if you are keeping it stock and want a bit more aggressive look, both you and your father can run a 285 on the stock truck. haha i cant help ya with gas mileage, i dont keep track of mine really, its a truck to me didnt buy it for good gas mileage. but for tires if you do mild off roading and are keeping it stock you can run 33s

Welcome to the Forum mike805ford! If your dad is getting 16-17mpg with 31s and 3.73 gears, it depends on what size tire you run but with 32s and 3.73`s which is what I started with on my truck you should get between 14-16mpg around town and alittle more on the highway, I`m not an expert on this but this is my experience with this setup, hopefully wandell will chime in and tell us he`s the expert around here!

Welcome to the site. You shouldn't need to regear if that is the largest tire your going to go with. If you do decide do regear, I don't think your going to see a significant difference in your mpg. If your worried about that, I wouldn't have bought a truck with a 5.4 engine. lol

I have the 5.4 engine, 3.55 gears and 35's and average 13mpg. I really don't know what milage I was getting with 33's becaue my speedometer was not corrected.

Thanks for the information guy its helped a lot ha ha and your right if it was was about mpg i shouldn't have got a truck but I'm glad i did because i really like my truck. I think once i get paying to go for the leveling kit and some nice ion 16's rims with a 32in all terrain tier and depending how it drive might re-gear.
Thanks
Mike
