Adjusting Drums

Whats the best way of doing this?

How do you know when they are adjusted properly?

If your using your old drums make sure to grind that little rust lip so you could adjust quicker and easier. You want the shoe just to slightly touch the drum. So if you spin it you hear a slight drag.

yeah i already did the brake job a few weeks ago. Last night noticed a burning smell coming from the passanger side drum.

The drum was also EXTREMELY hot.

I think its just over tightened. ill check that first as it wll be the easiest

Do you have the access hole in the backing plate? If so you could just jack the truck up, try and spin the wheel, and adjust it that way without pulling the drum.

I've never been able to remember which way to turn the adjusters, and it depends on which side you are on and which way you are laying on your back and which way the world spins.....

I've always just lifted both rear wheels off the ground, put it in netural, spin the wheel and move the adjuster whatever way makes it start to grab, then back off a couple of clicks... Do it that way on my traler brakes as well...

Good luck!

If you use your e-brake, make sure the cable is not hanging up.
