Full Blown Winters?

I am running some Destination AT's w/20000kms on them and am pondering going with a full blown winter...in stock size (275 65 18). Any ideas (ie Yokohama GO72, Hancook iPike etc....or should I be OK in the Destinations in most but the worst road conditions?

as a former tire salesman i second the blizzak, its the only winter tire i sold and the rubber compound is amazing in cold weather.

The Destination AT is one of the best rated AT tires out there. I have them and they're better than snow tires IMO. They're great in the snow, nevermind all season or light offroading. It's a "one tire that does all" IMO.

See where they're rated here. You can't beat them for price and performance. They look decent too:

For a dedicated snow tire, I would never hesitate to get some Blizzaks.

If I could scream it I would -

JUST BECAUSE THE TREAD IS AGGRESSIVE DOESN'T MEAN IT GRIPS IN THE WINTER!

You need the soft winter compound in the winter to allow the tire to "grab" the ice. Ever feel a snow tire? They are very soft, and the softness allows them to grab in ice and hardpack. That feature is what gets you out of trouble 90% of the time. Their pliability also allows them to keep snow cleared from inside the tread, which keeps them gripping.

Go dedicated winter tires, once you do you will see the difference and never go back. Remember, once these are on you are not using (wearing out) your all season tires. In the long run you really are not out any money.

As always, call me if you have any questions.

Be safe.

I didn't notice anyone mention anything about aggressive treads in this thread, so you can stop shouting now!
