Pirellis Got to Go! What to get?
Hello all! I am hoping for some advice from the experts here. I am looking to replace my OEM 20" Pirellis very soon. Although I have never had as many complaints about this tire as I've read on here, after 45K, these tires are turning out to be downright scary so far this winter. I didn't have any big problems last winter, but maybe because they have less tread, they seem to be pretty useless, and can be downright dangerous in the snow and ice here in MN.
My questions: Pros and cons of 305/55 VS 275/60?
I would like to go bigger, and have a 2.5 level installed. I have seen a lot of trucks like my own with 305/55/20, which I believe is a 33" tire, but what about a 275/60/20? I don't need any kind of a MT, but wouldn't mind an AT, as I do some light off roading in the fall for hunting and scouting fields. Primarily, 98% of the time, I am on road, highway mostly. I am open to going to 35's as well.
I would like to get something that is pretty good in the ice and snow, although anything would probably be better than the pirellis. Thanks in advance for your help!

I am leaning toward getting the Nitto Terras in the 305/55, but am still thinking about the zeons in a 275/60. I do think that the 305 would look pretty damn good on my stock 20's though. Would it make a big difference as far as traction in the snow going from a stock 275 to a 305? I've always heard that narrower is better in the snow. Thanks again!

Agreed...after months of looking and reading, I am going with the BFG 285/65/20's. It's about a 34" tire with an agressive look but also an AT for a smoother ride. With your 2.5 AS you shouldn't have any problems based on what I've read. C'mon Santa Clause and drop those BFG's down the chiminey:santa:

well i just had a talk with a guy from discount and talked me into the cooper ltzs. He did tell me they are a good tire for the snow here in colordo and u are right about the Pirellis being kinda dangerous for ice. Mine have 43000 miles on them and boy i just had to get rid of them quick. But for the cash the coopers are not to bad.

Well, I'm going to chime in with the Michelin AT2's. I switched them out before taking delivery, and after beating myself up trying to decide over the BFG AT's, I'm glad I got the Michelins. At over 25k so far since June (I haven't been driving much), they are fantastic. They grab like crazy, are quiet, and are wearing like iron. They don't even look like they've worn at al. I've heard stories of some getting 100,000+ miles out of them, and I'll say that they'll easily take close to it at this rate. The only gipe is they are only available in a blackwall in the 20" size, which is a titch bigger than stock. They look really meaty and aggressive for an AT tire. I went with these because I wanted an LT tire for towing, and they are load range E. I run them at 65psi for towing, and 55 for daily. The ride is firm, but not bouncy. I swerved to miss a deer this fall, and they corner like a sled on rails.

Just got rid of my Pirelli 275/55 r20, and bought Bridgestone Deuler At's in an 275/60 R20. It many not sound like much, but the 60 versus the 55 is a nice difference. I got my set for 800 bucks mounted and road hazzard. I Love the Dueler At Revo, and am probably one of the only guy in this forum running them. I spoke with someone in the know, (My Brother in Law) and he was saying that the Bridgestone is way better than the BFGs. He explained why technology wise, and I think that I have to agree. Anywho take what I have said with a grain of salt. DO the research for yourself. Anytime people tell ya they have the best, it is usually what they bought. Isnt that funny?
