WANDELL - NewB needs help.

I understand you are the man when it comes to tires and wheels......

I have a 97 F150 supercab 4X4 with the factory rims. I want to put a set of FX4 wheels off a 2002 F150 on my truck. I know the bolt pattern is the same at 5 X 135, but will I have any issues with backspacing or lug nut stud length?

I called the dealer for a set of lug nuts for the FX4 wheel. He quoted me $9.87 EACH.....I saw on Ebay that there are aftermarket lug nuts available. Do you know what size or type I would need? (conical or flat, depth of thread, etc....)

And lastly, Can I fit a 305/65 or a 305/70 on that rim and not rub? I think my truck is leveled.....

Thanks for any help you or anyone can give me....

Not Wandell, but I believe all you have to do to use the rims from a newer truck is to use the same lug nuts you currently are using. And either of those tires will fit. If you truck is a 4x4 and is leveled you can fit 'em. You can actually fit up to a 315/70R17.

had this same problem but with my Mickey Thompsons wheels. I just had to get new lug nuts and they have worked fine so far, but its not the length of the stud its the width that changed. After '99 they made the studs 14mm in diameter compared to 12mm, so the holes for the studs in the wheel will be a bit bigger. Can't remember if the OEM's are hub centric or lug centric, if they're lug centric i'm not sure if they'll work since the lug nuts aren't tapered like aftermarket ones but i could have that bass ackwards.

And you can fit a 315/70r17 on a stock wheel, but it will look extremely stuffed. I would go with either of the tire sizes you mentioned, neither should rub.

Good Luck

I thought all rims were lug centric. If I get 12mm tapered lug nuts, they should work right? Is the hole in the rim for the lug nut tapered or flat?

I am all confused.....

What should I expect to pay for a 3" body lift installed? Would 315's look better under a 3" BL?

35's will definatley look better with a 3 inch body lift. Like the others said, you need to use lugnuts for your 12mm studs. The OEM wheels are hubcentric so it's not a big deal if you use the right lugnuts. I'm not sure what kind of lugnut the FX4 wheels use, but I believe all of the OEM 17 inch aluminum wheels use the same style lugnut.
