BFG AT 305 Upgrade w/ Pics

Your in the same boat as me with the 2wd and lift. I perfer the size of the 305 over the 285, but everybody suggest that the 305 is to big for the 2wd height even with the lift mods. My truck in 100% Hwy driven, but I love the 4x4 look. I just didn't need the 4x4. I'm going with the 285's like everybody suggest.

I plan on jumping on the band wagon also and getting the BFG AT's. I too am torn between the 305/65/18 and 285/65/18. Could someone comment on how much the 305's hurt towing and acceleration performance. Also do the 305's mount on a stock 7.5 inch rim? Thanks!

Hey Guys! Its been a long time since I've posted on the board. I've been very happy with my truck and haven't really changed much in the last 4+ years.
I thought I'd give an update on the BFG AT's I had in the 305/65/18 size.
I put these tires on in December 2008 and now 4 years and 4 months later it is now time to replace them. I have gotten a little over 56,000 miles out of them with just rotations and maintaining correct air pressure. I never had any problems with them and they served me well on the road, in the dirt, and in the snow. I never really had them in any real muddy situations so no comment on mud usage.
I can't recommend these tires enough! Mine have really served me well. They were expensive but proved worth it to me.
Pros: Sizing, Aggressive Looks, Great Pavement Manners, Excellent Tread Life, Very Tough Design
Cons: Weight, Cost, MPG Decrease
As far as my suspension goes, the only issue that I have experienced was a popping sound that developed on the passenger side when I was turning. It was traced down to a bad ball joint and I had to replace the whole control arm since Ford designed it as a one piece unit. I can't say whether the 2" lift and/or the larger tires caused it though.
Anyway, I'm now searching for a set of replacement tires. I loved the 305 BFG AT's but I think I'm going to try out a different tire this time around. I'm also going to go to a smaller 275/70/18 size. Hopefully I'll get as lucky with my new tires as I did with these.
