Newbie Tire Help
Have an 05 STX 4wd supercab. Need to replace the stock 255/70/17s. I haul firewood on some tough roads, and I have shredded them in less than a year. Been looking at the Silent Armor($$$-are worth it?),SRAs, BFG AT, Coopers. Wondering how large I can go without making any mods? Also looking for the best place online to buy. Been looking at 265/70/17, would like to go larger if possible. SRAs seem to be best value so far with a E rating for hauling and a modest price tag.
Thanks in Advance

welcome to the site!
i think that it sounds like you may be looking for a 285/70/17 which is equal to a 33x11.5. you will have no problem fitting that on your stock wheels and they will not rub. they will also fill up the wheel wells nicely on your truck. the BFG AT is a great choice in tire
any more questions just ask

Avoid E rated tires if the tire size allows you to. D rated tires is more than plenty on these trucks and will not ride as rough.
Stock FX4 tires are 275/65/18, about the same as a 275/70/17 would be. I don't see why a 285 would not fit on a stock truck.
The BFG A/T is a great tire unless as you are not going to be in mud a lot (they cake up pretty good), and they have a pretty strong sidewall. If you're going on some ugly roads, get something with a bit of tread extending on the sidewall to protect from punctures.
I've never bought new tires online, but check in the aftermarket wheel/tire forum here. There is a tirerack representative who posts regularly and can probably get you a better deal.
