Ditch the 20's for 17 or 18's?

My stock Scorps have 30k mi on them so i figure i better start looking for some new tires. I plan on doing a 2-2.5 leveling kit at the same time.

I have done alot of searching on the forums and haven't nailed down a size yet,I was thinking 305/55/20 of 285/65/20, but i have learned one thing;

HOLY CRAP! 20 inch tires are expensive!

Are 17 or 18's much cheaper? I'm not sure of the equivalent sizes to the 20's so i cant really compare prices.

Help a brother out!

I like the look of 20's better. But if your concerned with price, 17's are definitely the cheapest.

I'd go with some nice aftermarket 18's and 33 inch tires personally.

I'd want 5 to 6 inches of backspacing on a 8 to 9 inch wide wheel.

there's not much of difference anymore, between the cost of 18's and 20's. for example off treadepot.com
35x12.50-17 316 shipped
35x12.50-18 341 shipped
35x12.50-20 342 shipped

33x12.50-18 312 shipped
33x12.50-20 331 shipped.

toyo mud's are the tires i priced checked. you got a king ranch, keep the 20's IMO. now once your start pricing out mud tires for 22's and 24's, better dig deeper in those pockets

I see alot of you guys like 20's but don't run them. I think it's easy to make 35's look good on them but 33's? Post up some pics if ya have them please.

Jlstang351, are those 33's on 20's in your sig? Now that looks good.

Honestly i would like to keep my 20's but i can get 17/18 wheels for less than $200.

well, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy just new tires rather then new tires and rim?

Atom, thanks for posting up some prices. I think you are right about just using the 20's instead of buying some more rims, but i haven't seen a pic that i like of 33' on 20's.

BTW your truck is Sweet! Easily one of my favorites.

yea I thought about doin the same with my stock 20's and getting some 18" Pro Comps. The price for 33's and 18's from 4wheelparts was about $100-$200 more than 1 set of BFG 285/65/R20's if I kept my stock rims. So after the 2nd purchase of tires for the new rims, you will already be spending less than you would on your 20's. This is something I have been looking into for a while now and may do here soon. Just depends how things work out this next semester.

this may be true, buy if money is an issue, you can get a set of 275/65/20's (34x11) on a f250 for less than 600 a set, pretty cheap IMO

Thanks for the pics. They are doing a good job convincing me to stay on the 20's. I was hoping JlStang would post back on his sizes. I think the white one looks great, but a search of his gallery turns up much different results. This must be a "before" pic. I'll send him an IM to get the specs.
I think 35's are going to give me rub issues, but hey look the best.
