Pirelli shake

I know this has been brought up a bunch, but can someone confirm that replacing the stock 20" pirellis with another type of tire gets rid of the steering wheel shake? Mine is doing it pretty bad between 68-71MPH.

I am going to get BFG ATs or Toyo ATs.

If the tires are the only problem, yes.

I sure hope so. I was hoping someone would see this who has had the problem and fixed it. I will try to keep thread at the top for a while.

More than likely the POS Pirelli tires are your problem but it could always be another problem.

Put it this way....you only read threads regarding the "flatspots" with the word Pirelli in the same sentence. I have the same problem with Pirelli's as does my neighbor. We both have F150's with 20''s.

I could not wait to get the Pirelli's off of my truck. What a garbage tire! Pretty much anything is a vast improvement over Pirelli's. I am very happy with my Nitto Terra Grapplers!

So I guess replacing them will hopefully fix the problem. Thing is 3 days after the rebalance and rotation they are WAY better. Almost like they break in or seat or something....

Problem is, the Pirelli's tend to flat spot when the weather drops. They just seem to be a cheap tire. If cold temps are not an issue for you, run them till they wear out and then replace them.

I have the Pirellis stocks on 20s and get no shakes on my screw. Don't get the flat spots either. Drive to Mt. Hood 25-30 times a year since winter 2006 and don't have issues in the snow/ice either like I have seen on other posts. I do put it in 4x4 though when on ice/full snow.

Even pulled my brother in law in his 4x4 crew toyo tacoma after he got stuck in ditch trying to get aggressive during recent snow storm. I was actually impressed with the tires (again in 4x4) given the slick conditions and grade. I guess if I have no issues now, new different tires will be unbelievable.

Would like something larger and not saying by any means they are great, but the dealer is giving me free tires for life. However, I have to get the tread down to 1/32nd or whatever it is. Doubt I can hold out that long for the value.

Klauss, if you like the stock pirellis, Toyos will absolutely blow you away. I never had issues with my 20" Pirellis, but I can't imagine riding on any other tire now. Smoother than my old Pirellis and 305/55/20 at that. That's alot of rubber that rides very smooth. I've never had that happen in any other truck. BFG's would shake my teeth out. Michelins would, too. The frames on these trucks are very sensitive so to get a tire that responds to this is hard to come by. I am truly impressed.

I've got the Pirelli 20s with about 40K on them and have had no issues whatever. I drive cross country a lot and it's a great riding tire. No flatspots either, but I do live in the south. When change time comes I probably will go to a 34 but I wouldn't hesitate to run Pirelli's again.

Camlocker,

Thanks for the rec. Those toyos look real nice on the truck. I am guessing that size just barely fits a stock truck or do I need a leveling kit for that size? Looks like they are close to 300 a tire. That may sting.

I have had the same problem for 3 years it only does it around 71 mph or after it has been sitting in the cold or heat. I have them balanced rotated and what ever else, nothing worked. Cant wait till they wear out. I cant beleive Ford wont do anything about this.
