305/65-18 on stock 18x7.5 rims?

I think I've decided on these size tires but don't have the funds for aftermarket rims yet. Can these be mounted safely on the stock rims? I plan on getting the BF Goodrich AT's if it matters.

Also, I want to level my truck but it doesn't seem to have nearly the difference from front to back as some I've seen. It's a an '06 XLT supercrew and the ground to fender measurement is only 7/8" different from front to back. I do have some 'winter weight' in the back, but I wouldn't think that would account for much. I was all ready to order the 2" AS kit but now I wonder if I should order the block or maybe a firestone air bags to put in the back in case I need it.

PS. If anyone has any pics of this size of tire I'd love to see them.

edit: I found a thread where someone has them installed. I guess I didn't think they'd fit because the BF goodrich site recommends a minium rim width of 8.5. What kind of side effects can I expect cramming them on the smaller rim?

they will be fine on the stock wheels. i have 305/65/17 and they are are 8" wide wheels, so not that big of a difference. many people mount a 35x12.50 on stock wheels and dont have problems, both the 35x12.50 and 305/65 are about the same width. i mean they could theoretically wear a little different, but everyone around where i live that has similiar setups do not have a problem.

The 305's are a bit more narrow, they will work just fine with stock wheels. A lot of people here run them.
I run 12.50's on stock wheels.
Did you buy the truck used? Make sure there isn't already a leveling kit on your truck before you order one. How much weight do you have in the bed?

I don't know how many miles you have on your truck, but you're probably close to needing shocks. If you want to level your truck, get the Bilstein 5100's and kill 3 birds with one stone. You'll also be getting a better ride.

I have 305/65-18's on stock wheels with Bilsteins.

Pics are in my gallery.

Thanks, your thread was the one I found so that I knew it could be done. I think I'm just going to do the spacer at this point, I don't need shocks and it's quite a bit more $ for the Bilsteins.

I see that you changed to the fx4 rims... that's what I'm thinking of doing as well. I have the lariat rims like you had but I think I prefer the fx4 rims. I'm assuming they're a straight across swap, same lug nuts and everything?

Yes, it's a straight swap. All OEM wheels from 04-08 F150's can be swapped with one another. Same bolt battern.

Good luck.

brianjwilson & last5oh_302 -- I like the setup you guys have. How's the road noise with those BFG's ? And did you notice any difference in MPGs?

I'm leaning towards the Bilstein 5100 Adjustable Shocks and I'm curious as to how easy they are to adjust once their on the truck. I'd like to be able to switch between the stock ride on street tires (Goodyear 275/65R18 LT Wrangler) for daily driving and then when I'm going to the ranch I can raise it 2" and put the larger off road tires on (either the 305/65/18 or the 35/12.5/18). I already have an extra set of the OEM 18" rims.

Can the shocks be adjusted easily after they're installed ??

Thanks guys.

The shocks have to be removed to adjust the ride height.

The road noise with BFG AT's is negligible, and I'm a picky SOB. I didn't notice any difference in gas mileage, in fact I believe I'm getting better mpg, but that's with the programmer I recently purchased.

As wendell mentioned, the struts need to be adjusted prior to install.

last5oh_302:

Do you happen to know how high your truck is now? Would it be under 7' still? I still want to fit in my garage. I think it should be fine but don't want any nasty surprizes.

My truck fits fine in the garage with the 2" 5100's and 35's.
Road noise on the KM2's is not bad, quieter than most M/T's. But they are still an M/T and louder than an A/T. (maybe you were asking about the A/T's anyway).
Not only do the shocks need to be adjusted before installed, but alignment would need changed anyway.

Sorry, I don't know. If Brian's truck fits, then my truck should fit. Brian's truck should be roughly a 1/2" taller.
