What Tires to Get?

I am a newbie when it comes to what tires I should buy. I have a 2004 F150 FX4 Supercrew 4x4. I am looking at the KMC Rockstar black wheels but am unsure what tires to buy. I am purchasing a 2" leveling kit and am wondering if I should go with 18" or 20" tires. I am Looking at Nitto Terra Grapplers, Toyo Open Country AT or MT, or Firestone Destination MT. I basically want an aggressive look with the largest tires i can fit without a suspension lift. I am also not going to be off roading that much and I would like to spend about $2,000. Any advice and pictures will help. Thanks

I'd go with 20's. Some people have fit 35's on aftermarket wheels with the proper width and backspacing, but it would be pushing it. I'd go with some 20's with 305/55/20's.

Personally, I'd go with 33's on 18 inch wheels.

x2

18" are just right. 20" tires are expensive to replace compared to 18" tires. Plus riding on rubberbands (short sidewalls) will be fine in you spend all your time on pavement, but 20" rims get a little silly off road and in the snow.

As for the tires I recommend mud tires if you go off road much.

1. Mikey Tompson MTZ
2. BFG MT

Also Cooper tire makes a very nice newer mud tire, with good side biters and high void tread but i'm unsure of the name. I've heard nothing but good things about this tire. I belive the Mickey Tompson MTZ tire is based on the design or vise versa. I'm sure the Coopers would be a little cheaper the the MT MTZs.

As for AT.
1. BFG AT
2. Mickey Tompson ATZ

I would stay away from Good Year and Firestone products. Good Years are not worth the price and the Firestones are low quality tires. But in about 2 seconds someone will disagree.

if i go with 305/55/20's will it depend what the offset is on the KMC Rockstars? If i dont put the 2" leveling kit on that is, or will i need the leveling kit? I would like the tires/wheels to stick out a little bit.

A 305/55-20 is basically a 33x12.50-20 tire. I'm not sure of the specs on the Rockstars, but I'd want a 9 inch wide wheel with 5 to 6 inches of backspacing.

Check out abarkerr2's truck, I think it might be exactly what you're looking for. He has a 2.5" leveling kit and is running 18x9s with 305/65-18 tires, which is basically a 34" tire, 33.61 to be exact and it fills is wells out perfectly. He had a real minimum amount of rubbing that required very little trimming of his flare. And if you scroll down a little you can see what he had to trim. https://www.f150online.com/forums/wh...ml#post3316688

20'S. Bigger is always better. The terra grappler is the most agrressive looking alterain and they ride really good.

What tires

I have 18/8.5 MKW wheels wrapped in Toyo A/T Tires on my '04 F-150. No leveling kit. Peaople always ask if my truck is lifted. It's not. The wheels are a 5 spoke with a diamond deck cutting on them. Looks and drives great.

I love my setup with 305/55/20 Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ Trad. They look real aggressive, ride great, and handle great in the mud/snow. I'm running a 2" leveling kit with these too. Here is a pic of them, got a lot of other pics in gallery if interested. Picked these up at 4wheelparts installed for $1300

Good choice, I run 285/75/R16 Mikey Tompson MTZs on my 1998 F150 4x4, 5.4, auto, 8' bed.

I'd go with 305x65x18 BFG AT's which are close to 34 inches tall. 18's are less expensive than the 20's also.
