Wheel Bearings

Hello, 99 f150 4.6. Are the wheel bearings on this truck serviceable? Or are they an enclosed hub and bearing assembly?

Next question is, i am pretty sure one of my bearings is gone because of a loud humming noise that gets worse with speed, but how do i determine if it is the left or right? I tried the wiggling of the tire back and forth, but that is not helping me out. Anyone have other checks for what bearing is gone?

Wheel Bearings

I too have a wheel bearing question? I have a 99 F-150 Supercab Lariat 5.4, with a clicking, squeaking, sometimes clunking from the I believe right rear wheel. At first I thought I had needed rear pads? Then the squeaking sound came. Any ideas? And so far you are the first person to query this issue? Also, yes they are servicable. Do you have a 8.8" or 9.75" ring gear? Don't forget the seals too when you order the bearings. If you are not sure of the 2 sizes, call your nearest dealer and give them your vin # and they will let you know. As far as I know it is easy enough to do? I recently had to replace the front pads and rotors and the bearings were built in to the rotor. At 100,330, the front were still good. So I just repacked them. By the way have you noticed truck seemingly to be dragging or holding back? When I would be at a light I could take my foot off the pedal and it would just sit there as if you had the brakes still on. Best of luck to ya and hopefully someone will answer our questions.

wutagoalie, take everything off and get to the bearings....then see if the races are chipped and rugged looking. if so , thats your problem. mine did it.

When the truck is jacked up in the air. Do you have play from top to bottom?

if i remember right, mine had just a tiny bit of play and the bearings were SHOT. i would suggest looking
