You should not have any problems with a 33" tire. In fact many of the levels kit manufacturers state you can fit a 35" tire with their level. However you may need to do some trimming to the liners in the front wheels.

do not buy a leveling kit for these trucks. crank your stock torsion bars. do a search on here and you can find many threads on how to do it

I agree.
As for tire size, you can fit a 35x12.50 using the oem wheels but they will rub the frame at full steering lock. You can easily fit 33's. I'd suggest a 305/70-16 (33x12.50) on a 16x10 inch wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing. You will have to trim a little plastic off the front bumper's valance to fit this combo.

I've got 305/70/17's on mine with just the torsion bars cranked and love the way it fills out the wheel wells. I had to trim the front valance some but that was probably partially due to the 17x9 wheels, but I have no rubbing now.

I really like the stock wheels but want to make the truck look "truck-ier" with MTs and a little lift for as cheap and easy as possible.

Go with the 315/70r17 (35x12.50). Imo that makes the truck look alot beefier and "truckier" forsure. That's what im plan on doing. I was gonna go with KM2's but money has got tight real quick here in the last few days so might have to go with cheaper tire, but if i had the money the km2's are sweet. And Def don't buy a leveling kit(waste of money) for any truck with torsion bar suspension. They put WAAY more wear and tear on your vehical's front suspension than cranking your stock key's do. It'll make you have to replace ball joints and cv boots if you buy one that allows you to crank it up more than your stock keys. Stock keys allow you to clear 35's, thats plenty.

I also wish i'd went with 35's now. I just traded off these tires and wheels and got some 17" wheels with smaller tires, but i'm gonna buy 35's in the next few weeks hopefully.
Leveled with 33's...

These might help you too.......
2 pics i found on the net, leveled with 35's...

Hope this helps, if you have a hint of doubt that you might be unsatisfied with 33's, then go 35's.

A 295x70x17 Toyo MT would look right at home on your stock 17's after cranking the torsion bars. Room left over not to rub offroad too.

I wouldn't go any wider then a 305x70x17. A 295x70 and a 285x75 would fit even better on a 7" wide wheel. All these sizes look great on the 97-03' 4x4 with cranked t-bars. Just my 2 cent's
